Forest School- Team Work- 1 session

(0)
This session looks at team skills and involves team games with lots of fun, discussion, praise and encouragement to promote team skills within the children. Only a few resources needed from the PE cupboard and a ‘recognition board’ to write down names of children showing the behaviour we are promoting. Slight adjustments made for EYFS/KS1 and KS2

Forest School Worry People (1 session)

This lesson helps children to recognise how worries can affect us and steps we can take to counteract those worries. It uses the book ‘The Huge Bag of Worries’ by Veronica Ironside as a stimulus. Planned interactive introduction, activity, games and follow up activity for EYFS, KS1 and KS2. Approximately two hours long. Involves some prep of simple resources beforehand.

Choosing how to represent remainders

This activity encourages children to think carefully about what to do with remainders after division. E.g. You may need an extra table to accommodate those remainders if they are people in a restaurant. They cannot sit on the floor. Or, if it is slices of cake, the remainders should be fractions.

Three separate activities that can be used to help children secure their understanding of addition and subtraction. Activity 1: Using bar models and inverse to help answer the calculations. Activity 2: Using rounding to estimate and check answers. Activity 3: Answering word problems.

Match the bar model to the word problem

Useful when teaching how to use the bar model with simple word problems. First activity to teach the skill after recapping on addition and subtraction in previous sessions. I used this with Year 5 at the start of the year.
