A Monster Calls SOW

A Monster Calls SOW

This is an interleaved scheme of work based on the modern novel A Monster Calls. This scheme of work focuses on the study of A Monster Calls but interleaves language lessons, poetry lessons and writing tasks as well. The language and poetry lessons follow a similar theme of Monsters and the hope is that students would then start to learn all of the skills rather than skills based on literature studies only. All of the resources are available for the scheme of work as well.

Macbeth Revision Lessons

Macbeth Revision Lessons

These lessons were originally designed to prepare year 10 students for their mock examination at the end of the summer term; however, they could easily be adapted,/used/embellished for a year 11 group. This would potentially take over three lessons to get through depending on the learners in the classroom and how fast paced your teaching would be. There is a recap of plot, characters, themes as well as reference to exam questions, mark schemes and an opportunity for students to complete a question at the end.

Introductory Lesson to English Language Paper 1 Q5 (Writing Section)

Introductory Lesson to English Language Paper 1 Q5 (Writing Section)

This is a few lessons worth of introduction to the writing section of English Language Paper 1. The lesson gets students thinking about the exam and what will be on it; however, because this is designed for low attainers, the aim is to get them interested and engaged with creative writing. It also prompts them to think carefully about structure, sentence types and using imaginative vocabulary. This is also useful for KS3 students who are low to mid attainers.

Year 13 AQA English Literature and Language Mass Revision for Remembered Places

Year 13 AQA English Literature and Language Mass Revision for Remembered Places

My students were taught the majority of the Paris Anthology in year 12; however, there were a few texts outstanding that they needed to cover in year 13 and these are covered in this PowerPoint. The PowerPoint prompts them to consider AO3 mostly as this was identified as their whole class weakness. It breaks down AO3 in to manageable chunks and this has had a huge impact on their essay writing and has really pushed them towards achieving higher grades. I hope this works with your students too.
