I am a long time ESL teacher and KS2/KS3 tutor. I create professional handouts and activities which do not require any alteration, simply print and copy. I make my resources user-friendly, meaning they are easy for pupils to understand, effective at teaching the target skill and entertaining for pupils to use. Where colour is used, the worksheets generally can successfully be printed in black and white unless otherwise stated.

SLEEP! Class discussion on the importance of sleep

(1)
Presentation which prompts pupils to think about and discuss how much sleep they get and whether it’s enough. It can be a good idea to start this lesson by asking pupils to write on the board the number of hours they got. You can prepare before class a big line with 1 at one end and 12 at the other. Ask pupils to put their number along the line. Discuss the results without singling out anyone. Handout with the same slides if you want them to follow along. Silly pictures to end a more serious class discussion on sleep habits, where pupils must answer 2 questions about each pictures - where and why!

Family Tree Puzzle

Family Tree: In small groups, children use the cards as clues in order to organise the pictures in a family tree. An element of competition can be added, making the first team to solve how all the people are related the winner. This takes a bit of preparation, but if you laminate it, you can reuse it many times. This can be used with young children or ESL learners of many ages.

Euro-Trip Geography Game + Worksheets + Extra Card Game

This is a comprehensive set of activities to work on geography about 14 European countries. It is possible to change the selection of countries by adding extra passports, flags and numbers on the board. You can view most of the game components in this picture: https://goo.gl/JkQUgf The main game is about taking a trip around Europe. Players each select a passport which contains the identity of a child who they will become during the game. The passport also contains a list of countries to which they must travel in order to win the game. To be fair, each passport will require the same total amount in order to win. To travel, players must earn money by answering trivia questions about these 14 countries, which can then be spent on flights to different countries on their list. Trivia questions include physical geography (location and shape), flags and capital cities. All game components are provided in PDF and DOCX format for ease of printing and also to allow you to customise the game to include different countries and/or different trivia questions. This game is suitable for lower primary pupils or older ESL or SEN children. Full rules are provided in PDF form in the download. The secondary game provided is basically UNO, except uses flags. It is intended to help children practice correct forms of 'be' in the present simple and recognise some flags. Game play is identical to UNO. Also provided are corresponding cut outs and worksheets about these countries. Cut outs can be used to practice capital cities, then further practiced on the worksheets. Another worksheet has pupils colour the flags according to a description.

Alphabet Cards aka DIY 'Scrabble'

The file contains 2 versions of letters - one with points and the other without. Letters can be put in the middle for pupils to form their own words, or handed out and played in a similar manner as Scrabble. It's best if letters are printed on card stock and/or laminated for durability. Also, as all vowels are on one page and consonants on another, it is useful to print each on a separate colour to help pupils recognise vowels vs consonants. ps. I'm new to selling on TES, so would really appreciate your reviews to hopefully help me sell more! Thanks!

Controversial Issues - Lesson Starter, Discussion and Pre-Presentation Planning

(0)
These activities are intended to lead into a larger project on giving a presentation. The idea is that pupils will choose a controversial issue to then use their presentation skills to prepare a talk for the class. Start with the starter picture projected on the board or as a handout. Use the phrase and image to push pupils to give their opinion and back it up. Break pupils into small groups and hand out the list of controversial statements. Have them discuss each. Get pupils to brainstorm a big list of controversial issues on the board which might make good presentation topics. Instruct pupils to choose one for which they must prepare a presentation. This may be done as homework or if presentation skills have been an ongoing topic, it could be blended into class preparation.
