A lesson aimed at working in groups to analyse 4 different speeches and create a second group to teach each other about their speech. This lesson offers an adaptable PowerPoint for analysing the poem ‘Eden Rock’ from the GCSE love and relationships anthology. I created this lesson during a topic titled "The history of the English Language". It explores language features used within the poem and exploration of key quotations. I have attached the poem as a blank copy for students to annotate and analyse. Included is a model answer, broken into a writing format for students to learn from and then have a go at responding themselves. This also includes a series of peer assessment questions for students to ask and respond to.

This lesson enables students to think about mood and atmosphere when writing to describe. They are given the task to describe a journey and then they have to do this using the opposite mood/atmosphere. My students really responded to this lesson and can now identify mood and atmosphere differences in other texts.

This lesson looks at the various structure techniques used by John Boyne and their effects on the reader. The extract explored covers, character entrances, tension, atmosphere and mood change and repetition. Students are shown a model example to give them the tools/skills ready to create their own structure analysis.

A lesson aimed at lower-middle ability year 11 students in a revision lesson. AQA's An Inspector Calls lesson focuses on the use of language in the final speech, analysis of context and the speech's structure. This leads a prompted answer to a GCSE question. The answer attached is a 'pretend' example of a pupil response that pupils can criticise, mark and improve according to the AQA mark scheme.

Originally taught at high ability KS3 it can also be used at KS4 in preparation for the speaking and listening assessment. A lesson that lasts two-hours, taking students through the AQA exam (paper 2) which looks at writing for a purpose. This lesson reminds students of certain pointers and gives tips for the exam. The second hour allows students to have a go at writing/practicing.
