A simple flip box with a picture on the upside and a word on the downside. By hovering over the pictures the words are made visible. I have combined two sets of coding here to create an activity which links maths and English. Clicking on a series of “action verbs” creates a sum which learners can work out on a calculator. In version [1b] the same set of “action verbs” creates a sum which learners can work out but without the use of the “=” button. If you download the coding you can very simply change the numbers used and or the pictures to suit any topic. Idioms [connecting idiom and text meaning] [geography] [1]

An idiom is a phrase that, when taken as a whole, has a meaning you wouldn’t be able to work out from the meanings of the individual words. In this simple activity learners have to try and match an idiom with the correct meaning. To help the learners understand this concept if they correctly match the pairs the “meaning” will turn yellow, if not it will turn red. It means that learners can move the “meanings” around until they match the correct pair. All of my activities are created on an Acer Chromebook in a series of Posts on a Google Blog. So, if you have a blog, or want to create one to try this concept out, simply copy and paste the text in the downloaded text file as a NEW POST and PUBLISH.
