Jay Rayner loves a bit of figurative language and students seem to love his article in this lesson. Lesson 1 includes reading a restaurant review and answering comprehension questions, leading on to analysing how Rayner creates humour in his restaurant review. Lesson 2 is all about writing a restaurant review. Includes a model answer and 7min Mr. Bean video to inspire! Includes a handy planning sheet that students enjoy. PLS PLS PLS LEAVE REVIEWS.

This was originally used for an interview lesson but I built on it to make it last 2/3 lessons. Lesson 1 includes a highly engaging video, a rhetorical device starter, a speech annotation group task and an individual writing task. Lesson 2 is focused on writing and structuring a speech. Engaging videos included again. These couple of lessons would be good to use for language reading and writing revision as well as an interview. I used role cards for the speech analysis group task but can’t find them.

Used as part of a Animal Farm scheme of work for year 8, this set of lessons, makes a great stand alone mini scheme. Students are put into groups/political parties with clear roles. They face a series of activities including party spending activity, speech analysis, speech writing, creating party logo and slogan etc. The mini scheme ends with each party producing a speech to the class, followed by a final vote. Any advice or ideas welcome!

A scheme of work i put together for my set 4 year 9 class. Consists of about 15 lessons which includes an assessment of how Scrooge is presented. Bronze, silver and gold for differentiated outcomes used in each lesson. This takes you up to the entrance of the ghost of Christmas yet to come.

Advertised to my y10’s as a creative writing crashcourse. The series of lessons are as follows: The basics: sentence structure Opening your narrative Feedback (Show don’t tell) The narrative problem Writing inspiration: great expectations (setting) Writing inspiration: great expectations (character) Creating tension Note: I have left out lessons focusing on narrative structure as i’d probably get sued by the academy trust as i used things from their trademark narrative writing resource. The slides are also plain (other than my bitmojis) as I didn’t want to include the branded slides of my school.
