This is a series of activities I have used with great success with my Intermediate French (B1) adult learners. I used it over a series of 3 x 2 hour lessons, starting with the sentence builder and doing lots of speaking and listening activities with whiteboards (see Gianfranco Conti/ Steve Smith’s blogs on these) to embed the vocab initially. Then we move on to activities such as the oral Ping Pong and Pyramid Translations to further automise and embed the key language. The dialogue activity also encourages the learner to use new vocab by recycling the vocab in the sentence builder. The final activity was the dialogue cards where the learners are encouraged to speak more independently, either using their own knowledge and/or with support from the sentence builder. There is also a homework exercise which the students can do at home.
My learners have found these exercises to be extremely useful to build knowledge and confidence and I hope yours will too.
Bon courage!
These activities are based on the Gianfranco Conti method of teaching, Included are sentence builders on weather, time and dates, pyramid translation, no snakes no ladders exercise, a sample homework exercise as well as an oral ping pong exercise. I have included a sample basic lesson plan to give you ideas on how to use the activities.
I use this with adults but you can equally use the resources with KS3 beginning or revising the topics of weather, dates and time.
Download, print out and laminate these flashcards to help your adults or beginners to learn key vocab on personal information. There are 21 questions with appropriate answers to help your learners interact with each independently. The cards are in English and French.
This free document can be used for new learners to give them the basics of numbers, alphabet pronunciation and some good websites for learning French. This is targeted at adult learners but may also give teachers some pointers to interesting websites.
This will help your learners (adults and children) to learn and consolidate key phrases for talking about parts of the body and for describing illnesses to a doctor or a pharmacist. More Conti-style exercises can be bought in a bundle of documents in my shop.
