I have 8 years of experience teaching in Reception classes in several different schools. I am currently taking a career break and using this opportunity to upload some of the resources I have created over the years. I completely understand the pressures and strains of the profession and aim to provide simple and adaptable materials that save teachers valuable time.

A foldover booklet for children to record the changes that occur in the transformation of caterpillars to butterflies. They can draw pictures or add their own photographs. Links with lots of areas of learning, especially Understanding The World and Literacy. My class used to complete these independently whenever they noticed a change.

Sentence Checklist for self-assessment

A simple checklist to remind children about what they need to use when writing a sentence. We used these to assess teacher’s writing during adult inputs and also gave the children smaller versions when they were writing and to use in freeflow. This helped them to become more involved in assessing their work and setting their next steps.

This is a blank Continuous Provision plan I used in a mixed Reception/Year One class. It is simple to use and allows you to edit it for the different areas in your learning environment. It helps to guide the enhancements you plan by carefully considering what you are planning for the children to explore when working in that area of learning.

KS1 History Significant Individuals presentation

Useful as an introduction to a history topic about a significant individual in history. Includes pictures and key questions. I used this as an opener for a theme around space and exploration. It also encouraged the children to think about the differences between past and present life and sorting the images afterwards led to discussions around the differences in the pictures. Easy to edit and replace pictures for individuals the children have studied previously to add more context.

What was it like to be a sailor? history worksheet

A page for children to write about life as a sailor onboard one of Christopher Columbus’ ships. We used these after role playing life on the ships- all the children sat on the carpet with oars and buckets and pretended to be sailing on the sea. We played ocean sounds on the interactive whiteboard and one of the children took on the role of Christopher Columbus to really get them into character.

Writing subtraction number sentences- chick themed

When we had chicks in our classroom we were learning about subtraction. We used the situations of taking (pretend!) fluffy chicks out of boxes to explore subtraction and find how many were left. The children who were ready to work on a more abstract level filled in the attached sheet, alongside their practical investigations, to begin to make links with number sentences.
