A Knowledge Organiser created for GCSE Media Sudies (Eduqas) covering some key media theories (including all ‘set’ Eduqas theories) related to: Audience, Media Language, Representations, Media Industry.
This resource includes three schemes of work: an introduction to the film industry, Kiss the Vampire for Component 1 Section A and I, Daniel Blake and Straight Outta Compton for Component 1 Section B. These are intended to be taught in this order and to cover a full term.
All areas for the A Level framework are covered including: Media language, audience, industry, representations, media theory and exam style questions (SAMS questions and questions not from SAMS material).
A full scheme of work for Eduqas GCSE Media Studies on TV Crime Drama, Luther and The Sweeney. This covers all aspects of the specification, a range of theories, includes practice exam questions, and makes use to the Eduqas textbook and other TV crime dramas which can be adapted to the teachers choice.
A full scheme of work of approx. 5 lessons on Component 1 Section B for Eduqas GCSE Media. These lessons cover all areas of the framework and exam questions which are NOT SAMS - one is from an Eduqas sample paper and the other is of my own design (the SAMS mark scheme can be used for this one) there is also a lesson which explores how to approach the ‘stepped’ questions in section B and gives advice on timing and command words. Also makes use of the Eduqas GCSE textbook.
'The Jinx the life and deaths of Robert Durst’
Approximatly 6/7 detailed and comprehensive lessons on the context and genre conventions of The Jinx for A Level Eduqas Media Studies component 2 section A. All elements of the theoretical framework are covered and homework tasks are planned for here. This scheme also makes use of the feature film All Good Things which is based on the real-life events documented in The Jinx.
Grade boundaries for: overall qualification (taken from Eduqas), individual units, individual questions. This can be used to provide students with a ‘grade’ for every piece of work they complete whether that be an exam style question or Mock exam.
This is based on the A* - E boundaries from Summer 2019.
A range of lessons for Eduqas GCSE Media Studies on MUSIC VIDEOS for Paper 2 Section B covering Michael Jackson 'Black or White.
Lessons explore: media language, representations, intertextuality and contexts. Media theory is also explored in some lessons.
Also inluded are opportunities for students to plan and answer exam questions in full.
This is a half term (approx 4/5 weeks) scheme of work which introduces the concept of media studies and media representations, some key terminology from the theoretical framework and media theory. There is reference to some of the set products but also wider media products are used to develop unseen analysis skills. The scheme begins to build textual analysis skills and focuses on an exam based question from the SAMS material.
A range of lessons (originally aimed at lower ability GCSE students) on some of the themes in Blood Brothers: social class, childhood and growing up, women, motherhood and motifs. This was planned in conjunction with AQA GCSE English Literature be can be adaptable for any year group or study of the play.
Approximately 3-5 lessons on nature poetry which is a subtle introduction to 'the Romantics' - this works well as a step into AQA GCSE poetry! Included are analysis and creative tasks aimed at higher ability year 8 but could be done with any KS3 class. Enjoy!
A small scheme (approx 2 weeks or 9 lessons) of REVISION lessons based on key characters and themes and the AQA GCSE English Literature specification, but adaptable for any teaching! Makes use of SAMS material and mark schemes from the AQA website.
A double lesson which introduces the concept of media representations to year 10 students (but could be taught to any year group).
This lesson focuses on the representation of nation in the media, explores the concept of stereotyping and introduces representations theory and LOTS of media terminology. Also included is a creative task and an essay based task on the representation of nation in The Daily Mail (Trumpquake).

All elements of the theoretical framework are covered and homework tasks are planned. This scheme also makes use of the feature film All Good Things and SAMS material.
Three lessons (taught as a 2 hour double and then single lesson) on the representations in the WaterAid ‘Claudia Sings’ advert for Component 1 Section A of the Eduqas A Level Media exam. Lessons cover: all representations and reps theories including a lesson which breaks down and analysis bll hooks theory in relation to WaterAid.
This is a range of revision activities based on Power and Conflict poetry, including:
A fun and interactive revision quiz, practice questions, revision of key quotes from each of the set poems
and TOP TIPS for approaching the AQA English Literature exam including the unseen poetry. Can be used for whole class revision or as a classroom display.
Two lessons which look at approaching unseen analysis and guides students through the ‘media language’ question for Eduqas GCSE Media Component 1 Section A. The lessons are similar so could be used as a taught practice and then assessment. This exam question, which is similar to the SAMS question (so this mark scheme can be used), analyses the film posters for Corline and Corpse Bride, but any print based media product could be used.
EDUQAS A LEVEL MEDIA STUDIES
A range of lessons on music videos focusing on Vance Joy’s Riptide for A Level Eduqas Media Studies component 1 section A. The lessons are hour long lessons and cover: genre, narrative, media language, representations and relevant theory as well as practice exam questions (SAMS mark schemes can be adapted and used here). This also makes use of the Eduqas A Level Media text book and focuses on the wider music industry and wider products.
