Victorian Britain - 5 lessons

(1)
This is a collection of 5 lessons on Victorian Britain. We have discussed living conditions, Workhouses, crime and punishment, prisons and schools. All lessons are based on COPA approach (content, origin, purpose, audience) with the task to analyse the source being the main one. All lessons contain settlers and kagan activities.

KS4 Spanish Halloween El Dia de los Muertos (AQA GCSE)

(1)
This is a lesson which I prepared for my KS4 Spanish groups for the end of the term. It includes one of my favourite starters - students have to analyse the overview of the cartoon - The Book of Life - and choose a task according to their level. You would then check the answers and would move on to explaining the lesson outcomes. Then they would have some fun with a tongue twister, working on their pronunciation of ‘Br’ sound (one of their favourite thing to do every lesson - easy to find and to tick SMSC, engagement, phonics and oracy points). Then I have included a mind map mini-plenary for them to revise the festivities/celebrations vocabulary. It is then followed by the new vocabulary introduction with a quizlet and quizlet live games. A short Rally coach activity is included for them to consolidate the vocabulary and to practice translating topic-related sentences. I have then arranged for a listening / reading activity using one of the youtube videos of the SpanishPod101 about Halloween. The lady speaks fast but there are Spanish and English subtitles at the bottom to assist students with understanding the video. They would answer the listening questions as they listen to /watch the video. The next task is Reading (Section B) - they need to insert the correct words in the text about the Day of the Dead followed by the AQA skill-based self-assessment. Finally, the ‘words’ snake’ plenary that students totally love - they have to work in groups remembering topi-specific vocabulary. Enjoy!

Research project (Motivational triggers) for KS3 Spanish - La maquina del tiempo (AQA new spec)

This is a research project lesson (or two lessons really) that I created for my year 8 Spanish students. The writing example can be easily adapted if more structures are to be added. The idea is to promote independent learning via research. Students have to research information about past or future events that they would like to visit if they were to have a time machine and create a poster or a set of notes. Students decide on the task and start researching relevant information using their iPads/ Chromebooks. At the same time they create a cardboard / paper time machine and produce a piece of writing as per model answer. In the end they stick their written notes / writing around the time machine (or attach it to their poster with researched information). The whole process takes about 2 lessons and is perfect for the end of the topic as you can incorporate all of the structures / vocabulary learned during the term! Note: the writing example is oriented on the working knowledge of conditional tense and related popular expressions. Please let me know if you have any other ideas on how this project can be implemented. If you still have some time left you can enjoy few games I have inserted to simply have fun during the (possibly) last lesson of the year.
4 Assessments on Nazi Germany

4 Assessments on Nazi Germany

(1)
These are four assessments that I have prepared to assess the knowledge of my students on the topic of Nazi Germany. They are created out of past exam papers, exam-like questions out of my head / book and some internet research. They were designed to gradually train them on how to correctly answer the questions and made it simple for me to check as in some case I just had to circle the missing point!

AQA Citizenship Controlled Assessment Stage 2 templates

(1)
These are the templates that I used as examples for controlled assessments for the Citizenship studies (AQA). The vast majority I have written myself with some help from the past work of students. I have tried to highlight the important points to mention and to show how it should look like.

Role-play: opinions on TV / movies - Spanish - AQA KS3/KS4 GCSE (Role-play)

(1)
This is a lesson on TV shows for an early GCSE Spanish class which can be used with a higher year 8 students. The lesson starter is a recap on some simple concepts (articles / gender / adjectival agreement/ spelling) to wake the students up followed by phonics practice (resiting tongue twister!). Then I included a mini-test to recap / check whether students remember topic-related vocabulary. Then they get to revise topic words via online quizlet activity. Students are to choose what quizlet task they want to do based on their level therefore this engaging task is differentiated. Then I have included a game - Roll-A-Word - Students roll a dice to complete different tasks related to the new and / or familiar words (both learning and revising). They count the value of the completed dices to make the task more competitive. Then they revise question words and how to form different types of questions in Spanish. They then jot their thoughts on a Role Play task in pairs (using grammar help - note: we use VCOP mat so if you have one you will need to change the numbers of the grammar points, if not you need to delete few bits, the examples of structures are provided anyway) and complete in in writing individually . Then their ‘Time Pair Share’ the Role Play and self/peer -assess their work by way of analising the success criteria (you might want to show it prior to the task for the novices). Please let me know if there are any problems / ideas! Enjoy!

Research project (Motivational triggers) for KS3 Spanish - Buen Viaje (Holidays) (AQA new spec)

(1)
This is a research project lesson (or two lessons really) that I created for my year 7 Spanish students. The writing example can be easily adapted if more structures are to be added. The idea is to promote independent learning via research. Students have to research information about the place that they would like to visit (any place in world really but I encouraged to visit Spain). Students decide on the task and start researching relevant information about the chosen location using their iPads/ Chromebooks. At the same time they create a poster or a travel brochure with pop-up images (!!!) about the chosen location. During the second lesson they distribute the writing task bullet points in-between the members of the group and complete a piece of writing as per success criteria and model answer. In the end they stick their written notes (or attach them) to their poster /travel brochure. The whole process takes about 2 lessons and is perfect for the end of the topic as you can incorporate all of the structures / vocabulary learned during the term! Note: the writing example is oriented on the revision of tenses studied this year, holidays, weather and location vocabulary. Please let me know if you have any other ideas on how this project can be implemented. If you still have some time left you can enjoy few games I have inserted to simply have fun during the (possibly) last lesson of the year.

Mi ciudad - Activities in town, photo card worksheet and project AQA GCSE

3 Resources
This is a brief bundle for the young GCSE Spanish class or for the revision of the older students. I included 2 versions of my observation lesson (practice of Section C reading exam task), a photo card help worksheet (can also be used for the topic writing practice) and a research project about a favourite town with the model answer that practically summarises the topic vocabulary and can also be used for the revision tasks (can be amended if needed).

Fuhrer's success: Fighting Unemployment / was Hitler successful?

(0)
This lesson is about the success of Fuhrer in Fighting unemployment. The first slide is the handout that should make it easier to complete the starter question (exam practice). You also have a usual settler, Create a quiz quiz trade (students write down a question and an answer from the recently learned topic and go around the classroom asking each other those questions - check Kagan education technique website for further description), a recap from the last lesson (the same activity really - as in my previous lesson - Was Hitler successful in fighting Depression). And, again, peer-assessment as a plenary. Enjoy!

Nazi Germany Revision lesson 1 (From Weimar problems to the popularity of the Nazi Party)

(0)
This is a revision lesson to look through some of the events in the Nazi Germany such as Hitler becoming a Chancellor (exam question wit success criteria and peer-assessment help slide), Versailles Treaty (video and a task), problems faced by the Weimar Governemnt (video and a task) and a source-based exam question asking students to explain why people supported the Nazi party. The latter also has an example (see file attached). I have also included a settler and a Team Challenge activity (see file attached) that asks students to answer the questions . I usually give one sheet to each table and set the rewards for the ones who will finish it first.

This lesson is about the evaluation of Hitler's success in fighting the economic problems. This lesson includes a stand-up question in the beginning that I use to check whether anyone remember's anything from the week before, a settler, a starter (examination practice), Ask a question! activity (students have to ask each other a question in each others exercise books, change back, answer and peer/ self assess it), All Read Round Robin on the success of Hitler's policies (handout with some info attached separately - can be used as a worksheet) and a peer-assessment of the last task as a plenary. And... Food for thought on the quote by A. Hitler!
The Night of the Long Knives

The Night of the Long Knives

(0)
These are two lessons about the Night of the Long Knives. I have included two of them because we actually did both lessons but omitted one of the activities do it is the same in both lessons. Basically pix and mix if you want! Both lessons include different settlers and starters (WJEC exam questions) and a some information on the SA and the Night of the Long Knives together with analysing its impact and the overview of the Hitler's road from Chancellor to Fuhrer. I sued quite a few videos which I included either amongst the files or by way of establishing a YouTube link. Please let me know if there are any faults! Enjoy!
Hitler Youth

Hitler Youth

(0)
This is a lesson on the topic of Hitler Youth. It starts with a relaxing settler, then continues onto a scrabble starter (children love it!), Learning outcomes, ask a question (use the table on the slide afterwards to give examples for the questions), an information slide about main youth groups, activity slide (with a link to a video and tasks on the basis of the same) and a revision task not to forget the keywords!
Women in Nazi Germany
madsheep_123madsheep_123

Women in Nazi Germany

(0)
This lesson is about the women in Nazi Germany. I have also included two printouts for the activities to simplify the completion of the task. Lesson includes the code starter (with a legend - it is really fun once you know how to quickly create them!), exam question for a starter (see pptx print out attached), model answer for the latter, peer-assessment slide, learning grid activity (you would probably need to print this one out as they can play it as a board game, asking each other question on the topic), a differentiated spider diagram activity based on the video and a 'blind date' activity related to the topic (see docx worksheet which I have taken from elsewhere so it will also be attached in the free uploads). The lesson is finalised by a 'draw and label' plenary activity on Nazi women and a food for thought slide!
How successful were Hitler's social policies?

(0)
This lesson is about the success of Hitler's policies regarding childbirth and women. The lesson includes a settler, a starter (exam question), a model answer for the latter featuring success criteria, followed by a peer-assessment slide, learning task grid (better to print it out - you will need some dices as well!), an activity with classifying the statements as successful or not and a slide with an 8 mark exam question (see handout), model answer with success criteria highlighted and a source-analysis plenary task. Finally, I have finished the lesson with a Food for thought slide, as usually.
