This lesson focuses on Edward VI’s reign. In particular it explores the early life of Edward. In doing so, students gain an understanding of his personality. It has been planned for the AQA History A-level 1C which explores the Tudors: England, 1485-1603. It could easily be adapted to suit any of the A-level specifications. The resources are designed for one lesson lasting one hour. My students all have their own copies of Tillbrook’s The Tudors: England 1485-1603 by Oxford University Press, this is sometimes referred to. All images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for re-use. All resources have been taught to my own classes.

Christmas Through Time Activity Booklet: Bumper Pack.

It’s always nice to give your students something Christmassy to work towards as it gets closer. I’ve updated this resource due to it’s popularity. This 10 page booklet can be printed in colour or black and white. Students can work through the different activities suggested in one go or once a week. I’ve used these resources with different ages but it would work best for lower secondary or primary school. The resources tell the Christmas story, look into traditions today and explore how Christmas was celebrated in the Tudor and Medieval period. The additional Powerpoint may also be used for other activities. Comments are appreciated. Images acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for reuse.
American West Revision Tarsia Puzzle

American West Revision Tarsia Puzzle

(1)
This Tarsia puzzle covers the theme of the American West. Great for 9-1 GCSE revision and intervention sessions. A Tarsia puzzle requires students to match up sides of triangles to form a hexagonal shape. They are brilliant for revision and get students to think hard. I use these at the starts of ends of lessons and they can take 10-20 minutes depending on your class's confidence in the material. All materials are provided here including student instructions, student puzzle pieces and teacher answers. All images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for re-use. Enjoy!

Medicine Through Time - How use is this source type questions - Q3 of Edexcel 2013

(1)
My students get really worried when looking at "how useful is this source" type questions of the Edexcel medicine paper. This is currently Q3 of the 2013 onwards paper. This lesson seeks to build up their understanding of how to explain a source's usefulness. This lesson contains two example questions, some sentence starters to develop structure and most of a model answer. Students can then be set an example for homework. This lesson could be supported by pages 30-31 of the new edition of the Edexcel endorsed textbook (2013 edition). Comments are appreciated :-)

Who was Florence Nightingale and what impact did she make? Medicine GCSE

(1)
This resource was planned for Edexcel's medicine through time course however it could easily be adapted to suit other boards or lower year groups. Students go through a range of activities to gather and secure their knowledge of Nightingale. Independence is encouraged and students have to work hard to complete all activities within the hour. I use both the Edexcel endorsed brown textbook and the older Edexcel blue and white Dawson textbook in my medicine classes. All images acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use" Any questions please do ask. Comments are appreciated :-)

History Classroom Display Materials

I've used these resources to create a "History of the World" display and a giant "Lego Timeline". All you need is some backing paper and ideally a world map. These materials were used to make the display shown in the photograph assigned to my TES shop. Images acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use".

KS3 Assessment - Women campaigning for the vote. Double lesson pack!

(0)
This is a KS3 assessment planned for Y8 students. Students are presented with two sources and they are expected to draw out similarities and differences in order to assess how far the sources agree. Excellent preparation for GCSE and beyond! Video clips are built in, so that students can recap knowledge. This should take place after contextual lessons about the Suffragettes and Suffragists. Any questions please comment :-) Images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for reuse".

How democratic was the UK/Britain in the 1800s? Two hour long lessons!

(0)
In this lesson students begin to explore people's rights, these two lessons were designed to support a new topic on campaigning for rights. In the first lesson students are encouraged to explore the nature of democracy in Britain during the 1800s. In the second lesson students look at who could and couldn't vote using a series of characters. A video clip about human rights through time is embedded. The first lesson will require the red SHP textbook "Re-discovering Britain 1500-1750" page 86 for the main task. Otherwise all required sheets are attached. Comments are appreciated.

Has that pile of books been sitting on your desk for over a week? Why not print out some stickers and get sticking! I use a range of stickers to encourage student feedback. It’s an excellent way to save some time but also encourage a dialogue. Credit to A. Wilkes for inspiration. You will require various label size papers but there are some standard envelope ones. Sticker sizes include: standard address label, 25x25, 64x64 and others. Comments are appreciated. This paper can be purchased online and put into any printer. Comments are appreciated. Images are taken from Microsoft Office Clip-Art collections and used in line with MS policy. Enjoy!

Transformation of Surgery GCSE - 2 lesson pack!

These lessons were designed as an introduction to the Surgery unit for Edexcel but could easily be adapted for other exam boards. Students explore how surgery has changed using source images and consider how Blood, Infection and Pain could affect surgery. The lessons have relevant resources for both teacher and students and should explain themselves. There are links here to the documentary "Blood and Guts: A history of surgery" but these don't have to be used. You could also support these lessons with the blue and white Dawson textbook or the Edexcel endorsed brown textbook (2013) edition. Images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use" Comments are appreciated.

Finding God or the Good in all things historical (created for activity week)

(0)
This resource was planned for a 1 hour and 30 minute session during an Activity Week during the Summer Term. The theme was based around "Finding God in all things" but the resource could easily be adapted for a secular purpose. During the session, students research a historical figure or event and research who, what, why, when, how. The students are then tasked with creating a video about their research on ipads (if available in your school) or on their smart phones. There's plenty to do here and a lesson plan for the teacher. Great for independent learning and would easily work for an introductory lesson during taster days or introductory weeks. Use the comment feature below to ask questions. AQA Tudors 1C - Henry VII - 11 LESSONS!

11 Resources
This is a bundle of 11 lessons for the AQA history A-level exploring the Tudors 1485-1603. This sequence of lessons is focussed on Henry VII. It looks at the main consequences of the Battle of Bosworth through to the emergence of religious and philosophical thought. There is enough material here to cover at least 11 hours worth of content. The lessons can be supported by core textbooks, my students for example are provided with Tillbrook by Oxford University Press.
