Unit 4: Task 2 - NOCSSE Mnemonic Sheet

(0)
I have used this with a range of abilities. It has added a sense of focus and provided a springboard and a safety net for some, in terms of how they approach the question. It provides simple scaffolds and can be used as part of a lesson to structure writing or to develop discussion, and encourage pupils to use the language of comparison. There is also supportive vocabulary and effective questions that can be used to draw out key ideas and develop understanding for further analysis.

Scaffold: Reading Non Fiction and Embedding Evidence

(0)
This scaffold is used regularly to support pupils when writing about Non Fiction texts in both Unit 1 and Unit 4. This is aimed at pupils who struggle to order their ideas and to support better timing in exams, and to develop the skill of embedding evidence. It can also be edited for modelling in class and a springboard for Year 9 and 10 RNF. How is it used in the classroom? When modelling answers and responses, I would use this with a visualiser. I would also print and cut them out and use them as structure strips by sticking them into the books of pupils who need help with organising their responses - feedback and improvement. Or I would laminate and hole punch them for their folders - good for SEN and TAs - that way they can use it each time I set them a question and I would ask them to check their answers or refer back to it. Oracy - can be used as oracy support as well - ask the class to speak like an expert and use the structure strip to structure their talk.
