"A Hanging" by George Orwell: Pupil Table + Essay Writing Guidance

(1)
This is a BUNDLE of resources which includes: a copy of George Orwell’s “A Hanging”, a table for pupils to complete once they have read and learned the essay. The table is partially filled and challenges pupils to both find evidence and provide explanations and analysis (includes guidance) for the most significant aspects of the text. This has been an invaluable resource for me when teaching this text. The PowerPoint takes pupils through the Critical Essay writing process with guidance on planning a response, to structuring paragraphs ( introduction and main body paragraphs) and using time connectives to allow their essay to flow. It also includes an exemplar paragraph for guidance.

Discursive Writing Unit for BGE with support PowerPoint - ready to print and use!

All you need to take a BGE class through Discursive Writing. This is both a teacher and pupil friendly unit of work that is “write on” and ready to print. The support PowerPoint introduces the topic of Discursive Writing and also takes pupils through how to structure their introductions and main body paragraphs. The main unit is a Word file; below is a copy of the Contents Page of the printable unit. I’d like to add that the preview is such a way that it makes the front page look incredibly dull when it’s actually very visual - strange. Page 1: Front Cover Page 2: Contents Page Page 3&4: Example “Animal Testing” Essay Page 5 & 6: Discursive Writing “Main Ingredients” Task Page 7: “Be Heard” Page 8: Researching My Topic Page 9: Rate your Arguments Page 10: Useful Phrases Page 11 & 12: Discursive Essay Plan

Shooting Stars Essay Help N6

As we approach the exam, I wanted to prepare the pupils for potential unseen essay questions they may encounter in the exam and to move away from the attitude that they can “learn” an essay and hope it comes up on the day. I made these resources to support pupils in writing in response to the following essay questions: *Choose a poem which is effective because of its use of contrast and/ or imagery. With reference to appropriate techniques, discuss how the poet’s use of these features contributes to your appreciation of the central concerns of the poem. * and *Choose a poem which deals with an issue of importance to human experience. With reference to appropriate techniques, explain how this issue is presented and discuss how it enhances your appreciation of the poem. * Each resource contains some general guidance linked to unpacking the essay question, a partially populated table designed to encourage them to choose the appropriate and most suitable evidence from the poem for each question, and an example paragraph.
