Superhero Origin Story: FULL Creative Writing Unit S1/2

(0)
This is a full unit of work based around the theme of superhero origin stories. There are a number of Reading, Writing, Talk and Listening tasks, as well as a scaffolded essay plan at the end to assist pupils writing their own origin story. The pupils love this unit of work and, like my other resources, it is ready to print. As the ‘listening and note-making’ sheets are in landscape these should be printed separately and merged into the unit just after the 'Questions for The Hulk" page, before photocopying class sets of the unit. I have also included 3 word documents which have coloured images of the settings used in the booklet These may be printed in colour to assist the “Super Setting” activity, or simply projected. Enjoy :)

Urban Legends Creative Writing Unit KS3/4

This relatively short unit of work is designed to inspire pupils how to write their own urban legend. There are 2 PowerPoints which together takes the pupils through basic creative writing conventions: Characterisation, Setting and Plot structure, with a number of tasks to do along the way. I have also attached a compilation of some popular (but brief) urban legends for consideration - this correlates with a task within the PP, as well as a copy of the short story “Baby by the Roadside”. There is also a short RUAE passage with questions based on the topic of… you guessed it: Urban Legends. It’s a nice change from Halloween writing and the kids really buy into it! ( planning sheet included)

"A Hanging" by George Orwell: Pupil Table + Essay Writing Guidance

(0)
This is a BUNDLE of resources which includes: a copy of George Orwell’s “A Hanging”, a table for pupils to complete once they have read and learned the essay. The table is partially filled and challenges pupils to both find evidence and provide explanations and analysis (includes guidance) for the most significant aspects of the text. This has been an invaluable resource for me when teaching this text. The PowerPoint takes pupils through the Critical Essay writing process with guidance on planning a response, to structuring paragraphs ( introduction and main body paragraphs) and using time connectives to allow their essay to flow. It also includes an exemplar paragraph for guidance.

Designed to be used in conjunction with the film, “Matilda,” this presentation is roughly 70 slides long and will take the pupils through a number of important aspects of cinematography such as: Genre, Representation, Symbolism, Sterotypes, Camera Shots & Angles and Mise-en-Scene, with a number of tasks and activities built in along the way! Although there is no printable unit, there is much scope throughout the unit for pupils to produce written pieces of work to demonstrate their understanding. Personally, I have found this a fun and engaging introduction to film study for my junior classes who are learning about film for the first time.

Black Mirror SOW for National 6. Talk, Listening and RUAE.

This short unit of work is based upon the Charlie Brooker series, ‘Black Mirror,’ with a focus on the episode ‘Nosdive’. Pupils watch the episode, take notes and then engage in discussion ( which I evidenced for their N6 Spoken Language assessment). I have also made questions to accompany an article which was written in response to the episode, along with a very thorough marking scheme. Created in 2018 so up-to-date and incredibly engaging for the pupils.
