Looking for a fresh way to teach Creative Writing? This is a unit of work designed to teach pupils to write creatively within the genre of Magical Realism. The unit inlcludes the following: a printable unit, two well known examples of Magical Realism fiction and a support PowerPoint to introduce them to the genre with various tasks and visual stimuli. What’s nice about this unit is that it really can be used for a variety of year groups as once the pupils are familiar with the genre they will differentiate via response; I have used this with S1-S3,and the pupils really enjoy it. New for 2021. This resource includes an example Critical Essay (A), for an “interesting/ memorable character” type essay question, but can easily be adapted to fit another essay question. The essay follows a neat, predictable paragraph structure: Topic Sentence, Point, Evidence, Analysis & Relate to Essay Question. It also includes a placemat activity which correlates with the essay whereby pupils find the evidence/ analysis and record it on the placemat. This works well as a revision placemat.

Superhero Origin Story: FULL Creative Writing Unit S1/2

(0)
This is a full unit of work based around the theme of superhero origin stories. There are a number of Reading, Writing, Talk and Listening tasks, as well as a scaffolded essay plan at the end to assist pupils writing their own origin story. The pupils love this unit of work and, like my other resources, it is ready to print. As the ‘listening and note-making’ sheets are in landscape these should be printed separately and merged into the unit just after the 'Questions for The Hulk" page, before photocopying class sets of the unit. I have also included 3 word documents which have coloured images of the settings used in the booklet These may be printed in colour to assist the “Super Setting” activity, or simply projected. Enjoy :)

All you need to take a BGE class through Discursive Writing. This is both a teacher and pupil friendly unit of work that is “write on” and ready to print. The support PowerPoint introduces the topic of Discursive Writing and also takes pupils through how to structure their introductions and main body paragraphs. The main unit is a Word file; below is a copy of the Contents Page of the printable unit. I’d like to add that the preview is such a way that it makes the front page look incredibly dull when it’s actually very visual - strange.
