I am an English teacher with 10 years experience. I believe my resources are robust, creative, engaging and challenging. I aim to share resources which are ready to print and PowerPoint lessons which are ready to teach. All of my resources are of a high quality and in line with the current Scottish curriculum, or else can be easily adjusted to suit other curricula. I hope you enjoy any resource you purchase and they make your life a little less stressful! :)

Remote Learning UNIT. At The Circus: A Thematical English Unit.

Remote Learning Unit of Work. Looking for a concise and comprehensive unit of work to fill a couple of weeks? This unit of work was originally designed by myself as a resource suitable to be used as cover work - (work should take roughly 2 weeks to complete). Because of this, it does not require much teacher input; pupils can work independently through the unit at their own pace. Nonetheless, given the thematical and broad nature of the topic, there is plenty of scope to expand on this unit of work: Contents Page: • Page 3-4: “The Father of the Modern Circus” (Tasks: Reading, Summarising, Storyboarding and Visualiser) • Page 5-6: Animals in the Circus (Summarising Task). • Page 7-9: Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluation • Page 10-11: Raising Awareness - Poster Task • Page 12: Creative Writing (Writing task) • Page 13: Personal Reflective Writing (Writing Task)

I have typed the extract from the play which will feature in this year’s exam: 2022, along side some imagined questions. I have also included a table and exemplar table for pupils to fill in as they read and study the lines from the exam extract. I have included a separate typed extract with some potential 8 mark questions.

Advertising Unit: The Dragon's Apprentice

(0)
This colourful and engaging unit of work takes the pupils through various aspects of advertising such as: logos, the use of colour, slogans, persuasive language etc. Pupils also watch examples of Dragon’s Den pitches online ( teacher can choose these, although I used reggae Reggae sauce and I-Teddy) as a way of thinking about their own product and pitches. The overall objective of the unit is for the class to work in groups on pitching an “impossible product” to “The Dragons” demonstrating their understanding of advertising conventions learned in class. There is also a Numeracy element as, prior to their pitch, the group must plan and think of target market, number of projected sales, growth etc. This unit is lots of fun and is best suited to S2/3 ( year 9/10).

National Poetry Day 2022

A ready to use unit based on this year’s theme: The Environment. This unit contains activities linked to three poems which feature on the NPD official website: Daisy Chain, Litter is Rubbish and Being True to Yourself. Pupils will learn about some poetic techniques and be given chances to apply this learning to little bursts of poetry before embarking on their final piece of poetry for this year’s event.

Creative Writing Challenge: Medieval Theme

(0)
A lesson of work designed to generate a short piece of Medieval writing. Pupils should choose a character, setting and situation. There is an example provided. If you haven’t yeat taught Medieval or considered this theme then you could always show a YouTube video on the theme of medieval prior to trying the writing exercise. This is also useful as a timed piece of writing.

Starter Activity: I see, I think, I wonder

Purpose: Project an interesting image onto the PowerPoint as pupils enter the classroom and ask them to silently write a response on their slip of paper under the following headings: I see, I think, I wonder. This is a simple but excellent starter activity which gets pupils thinking quite deeply as soon as they come into the classroom. I often use it as a springboard into a new topic, projecting an image which is thematically linked to the SOW in order to generate interest, ideas and opinions from the word go!

Holes, by Louis Sachar. Chapters 1-33

Year group: S1-3 ( depending on ability). This is a partially completed unit with various reading tasks and activities to take you up to chapter 33. I have also included essay plans, one differentiated, and a couple of others tasks. As this is not a complete unit of work I am happy to post for free; maybe someone else can finish it one day and be happy they had less resources to produce! :) Please leave a review of this resource once you have used it in the classroom.

This PowerPoint takes pupils through the four following aspects of the short story: Characterisation Setting Symbolism Climax/ Ending If you enjoyed this resource and found it useful, I would highly recommend purchasing the example essay and the Critical Essay PowerPoint guide which marries up with this perfectly.

This resource takes the pupils through the steps required to gain full credit when tackling the “Ten Mark Question”, through the use of appropriate headings. It also provides pupils with an example of how to pick up marks using “PEA” under each heading.
