As this is a new poem, there aren’t any official SQA Past Papers for this particular poem. These questions have therefore been made in this style in order to prepare the pupils for their final exam should this poem come up. Can be adapted to suit National 6.

A few worksheets and creative writing challenges for Stone Cold.

Purpose: Project an interesting image onto the PowerPoint as pupils enter the classroom and ask them to silently write a response on their slip of paper under the following headings: I see, I think, I wonder. This is a simple but excellent starter activity which gets pupils thinking quite deeply as soon as they come into the classroom. I often use it as a springboard into a new topic, projecting an image which is thematically linked to the SOW in order to generate interest, ideas and opinions from the word go!

A lesson of work designed to generate a short piece of Medieval writing. Pupils should choose a character, setting and situation. There is an example provided. If you haven’t yeat taught Medieval or considered this theme then you could always show a YouTube video on the theme of medieval prior to trying the writing exercise. This is also useful as a timed piece of writing.

A short PP presentation which contextualises the novel, “The Great Gatsby” for pupils, including a link to an interesting and pupil friendly YouTube video.

A short but useful PowerPoint which looks at the use of colour and lighting in Home Alone, with a focus on the abundance of red and green and the purpose of this. The PP takes pupils through a few frames with guided questions and then asks them to write a detailed paragraph explaining their understanding of colour and lighting as used in the movie.
