Myths and Legends Creative Writing SOW KS3
This engaging, fully resourced, 5+ week creative writing scheme covers a variety of Myths from around the world. Used with a high level year 7 class but could be used all through KS3. We used the Horowitz versions of some of the stories but you could easily find other versions.
Tasks cover a variety of forms and skills, including editing, story openings, descriptive writing, sentence structure, showing not telling, and more.

A fully-resourced SOW to accompany ‘Stone Cold’ by Robert Swindells. Perfect for Year 8 or 9.
This is an analysis focused unit but there are creative writing opportunities included.

A 9 page flip book for pupils to use to help them independently structure PEE paragraphs. Great resource to support SEN pupils by breaking down the paragraph into sections, with example basic paragraphs included. Can be printed, cut and stapled together.

Advertising SOW KS3 - Persuasive Writing Unit
SOW that covers language and methods of persuasion used in marketing. Pupils must create a product and pitch it, creating scripts, posters, logos, slogans and more.
Very fun! The pupils loved it and they all made their products as homework to use in their pitches.
Awesome Anthologies - Poetry Writing SOW KS3
During this unit, pupils make their own anthologies of poetry they write, creating their own book. Best used with Year 6, 7, or even LA Year 8, this SOW is so fun to teach and covers a wise range of poetic forms, including haikus, sonnets, shape poetry, metaphorical language and nonsense poetry.
It’s great fun and the student really enjoyed it!
Moving Image: English and Media SOW for KS3
This English SOW was created for Year 8 classes and looks at the basics of analysing visual media and creating print media, focusing on language choice; as well as writing film reviews and other transactional writing activities.
The Tempest KS3 SOW (Year 9)
SOW aimed ad create for Year 9, focuses on analysis of character with a focus on Caliban for the end assessment.
Midsummer Night's Dream KS3 SOW
Originally taught in Year 8, this SOW focuses on character analysis, PEEZA paragraph writing and quotation analysis with opportunities for creative writing in between.
Great introduction to analysing Shakespeare.
Private Peaceful Year 7 SOW - full unit of work
6 week unit of work to accompany Private Peaceful novel.
All worksheets included and instructions on the PowerPoint.
Writing and Reading assessment included - reading at the 3 week mark and writing and a second reading assessment at the end of the unit which gives you an element of choice, depending on your focus.
