Edexcel GCSE Weimar and Nazi Germany (can be used for ANY exam board and adapted up/ down for KS3/ KS5) Lesson examines the Munich Putsch in Germany and how Hitler tried to seize power plus analysis and evaluation of the impact and why it could be argued to be a success or a failure for the Nazis. Includes a true or false retrieval starter, retrieval task on how Hitler became the leader of the DAP and made it the NSDAP. Video task / questions on the events of the Munich Putsch. This lesson is an intro to the Suffragettes for Y9- it examines Victorian attitudes towards women and looks at despite rich women having some benefits they were still repressed in terms of rights in the household, their opinions etc. Includes video clips from Mary Poppins and Oliver Twist, sources from anti-women’s suffrage posters and also discussions around how far sexual equality has moved on since women got the vote with modern adverts and stats.

Alevel Russian History OCR -can be used for any spec/ GCSE if simplified Very comprehensive double 2 hour lesson plus homework on the Impact of WWI on Russia - Economics, Society and Politics and the Causes of the February Revolution Includes a very detailed powerpoint including retrieval tasks for previous work studied, including debates, e.g. how stable was Russia on eve of war? Was the February revolution from above or below? Looks at all political, economic and social effects of WWI follows my previous lesson on How stable was Russia in 1914. Card sort of factors, Ripple diagram for pupils to fill in with causes for different groups in society e.g. national minorities and peasants vs army and industrial workers. Also includes an example 20 mark essay examining the significance of WWI vs Nicholas II’s actions even before WWI.

Double Lesson for ALevel OCR TUdor Rebellions focused on the Oxfordshire and Essex Rebellions- more on the Essex Rebellion since Oxfordshire is not very significant and doesn’t have lots of material. Very comprehensive 2 x 2 hour lessons (more if you use the Starkey youtube clip)- ((you may want to include a disclaimer about his views not being the views of your History department!)) and use all of the reading. Essex is such a character- I love teaching this. 2 hour ALevel lesson designed to evaluate stability in Russia between 1906-1914, Designed for OCR course but can be used for AQA or Edexcel also. Very comprehensive with detailed resources for independent learning and enquiries, debate and discussion. Follows my lesson on Stolypin and Witte and evaluating their relative significance. This is also designed to go before studying the impact of WWI on RUssia so students can evaluate how far WWI caused the February revolution 1917. This lesson has been planned using the 2021 Bennett textbook so all information has come from this source. Includes a starter looking at popular perceptions of Congress and discussion task around reasons for this. ALevel lesson (2 hours long) on the Revolt of the Northern Earls 1569 Designed for OCR Tudors Rebellion and Disorder course- looks at the rebellion according to the themes- causes, nature, threat, reasons for defeat and impact. Very detailed and comprehensive resources, all information included- no textbook needed. Also includes analysis and evaluation tasks and critical thinking.

OCR ALevel History Russia 1894-1941 Topic 2: Towards a Constitutional Monarchy. This two hour lesson examines the creation of the Duma from the October Manifesto and the limits of the Fundamental laws. Also examines the challenges of the Duma and the makeup of them and why Nicholas dissolved them each time. Includes detailed information and all resources needed if you do not have textbook pages from Corin and Fiehn- I have typed up all necessary info onto documents to accompany the lesson.

How did the Tsar survive 1905? Analysis of the reasons 1905 was different to 1917. Edexcel ALevel Core Values of Socialism for Politics This lesson examines the core values underpinning Socialism as an ideology with some links to key thinkers and examples. Lesson 2 of my Socialism unit for Alevel. This lesson includes a range of resources including video clips to demonstrate the key ideas. This lessons should take 2-4 hours depending if you get students to do the Core Values independently and then go over it all to explain it after wards. I use both the Heywood and Pearson book for doing Core Values to give students for reading but if you have neither- a detailed summary of all ideas is contained on these slides.

Alevel Politics Lesson for Edexcel (can also be used for AQA or Sociology, Civics, Philosophy etc) -Ideologies Socialism lesson 1- Looks at origins of Socialism and the context of the Industrial Revolution as well as earlier examples. Edexcel ALevel Politics- can be adapted to AQA. This lesson (3 hours worth of work) uses the newest Bennett chapters (although almost all key notes are on slides). Examines similarities/ differences between UK and US Constitutions in terms of the three branches of government, nature/ origins, Federalism/ Devolution and also the Comparative theories.
