A well presented lesson on the 1066 The Battle of Stamford Bridge in the run up to the penultimate lesson of the Battle of Hastings created for KS3 history students on Microsoft Powerpoint A little about the lesson Students explore the Battle of Stamford bridge between two of the contenders Harold Godwinson and Harald Hardrada. Students are provided with the pieces of the events that occurred at the Battle of Stamford Bridge which they must piece together themselves. There are 2 optional tasks provided in this resource to accommodate with teachers printing budget allowances in schools! Students can either cut the cards with the images provided or they can arrange the statements and put them into a storyboard of their own, adding their own images for a potential homework task. Students are then encouraged to draw conclusions from the Battle of Stamford bridge and communicate these in writing through PEE paragraph exercises (which could be extended through a suggested homework piece included in the resource) Whats included? Student worksheets/resources are included in hidden slides in the relevant points of the presentation and also as an additional Powerpoint for ease of printing. This lesson is the 4th lesson in my Slavery scheme of work. This Middle Passage lessons looks firstly at the journey and experience of slaves through the middle passage via the medium of a storyboard. Using a pack of resources, students then to consider in groups the Time/Author/Purpose/Place of each source. Like in all my Slavery lessons - I show students a clip from ROOTs for them to visualise the Middle Passage - however this is not an essential part of the lesson! If purchased - please review!

A well presented lesson on the capture of slaves. Students are engaged through detailed, well presented resources. For this lesson ROOTs is required. Students find an engaging way to learn about the route slave capture through classroom discussion. Students then prose their own enquiry questions about slave capture. Students watch the extract from ROOTs before and including the capture of Kunte Kinte up until his incarceration on the beach. Students then answer their own enquiry questions. Students reflect and develop their written empathy skills by writing a diary extract. Students are to focus on including both key historical terminology learnt in lesson 1 but also improve their vocabulary using some of the words provided.

This lesson is designed for my current Y11 students starting AQA Paper 1 (Old Spec). It covers the content to the event in steps which studentscan work on either independently or in groups. The activity for this can be structured in a carousel if you wish. The event has been broken down in simple points as students can sometimes get a little confused with the names and agendas of people in Anschluss. Each step is accompanied by images to prompt memory. Quick AFL checkpoint in the form of a Pop Quiz is in there. The penultimate task in this lesson is for students to become familiar with the 10 mark question on Paper 1. Students are provided with the answer and have to figure out the exam technique behind it. What do they need to do and what do they not need to do. The question allows students to use prior knowledge of the Rhineland crisis and students then need to consider which event was more significant in causing ww2. This lesson looks at how William the Conqueror tried to maintain control of England following his 1066 invasion by introducing and implementing the Feudal System. The lesson looks at what a feudal system was/is and compares it in the modern day context. The lesson begins with a team pop quiz - students then look at the things hoover did and did not to challenge the Great Depression. This is a lesson which develops students skills of team work and independent enquiry. Students begin with a team quiz! Students pose their own enquiry (or choose from 2 enquiry questions on the board) based on the ‘hook’ (video). As a team of detectives. Students explore different elements of organised crime with constant focus on their enquiry question. High quality resources (maps/written pieces/statistics) make up the 6 sources. This lesson is designed to fit over an hour. It informs students about the April 1938 Anschluss. Students look at the story and events of the Anschluss and how its outcomes led to WW2 being more likley. In this lesson I introduced the Paper 1 10 mark question and supplied students with a model answer to break down into a plan. I work with students to highlight the many points made on each argument and review the paper again to get students to highlight the key language and words used in the text to promote each point as the most significant In addition to this there is a mini Pop Quiz to check understanding. This lesson is designed for my current Y11 students starting AQA Paper 1 (Old Spec). It covers the content to the event through a detailed piece of writing which students work on independently at first. Students then use the resources to complete the table explaining how each event made WW2 more likely in preparation to answer a 10 mark question. Students then answer a 10 mark question using their tables and previous experience to guide them. A plan is provided on a word doc to help structure their answer. Finally students make a judgment on whether or not the collapse of Czech was inevitable following the Munich Agreement linking their ideas about appeasement. Please review!

This lesson is designed to be taught over 2 - 3 hours as not only does it explore the roles of women and the changes they experiences in the 1920s but it also looks at new Paper 1D Q1 - 3 Interpretations exam technique. The lesson provides the following. An overview through video on how life for women changed. Card Sort looking at whether life changed for all women & were there some limitations. 4/8 and 12 mark question. The ppt offers further extension and exploration of 2 interpretations (provided by AQA for the new spec) on how life for women changed in the 1920s. Mark Schemes are also provided for each of the 3 questions to support in accordance to the new spec assessment. The lesson firstly covers the second new deal - information slides have been provided if you wish to split the lesson into 2 and remove the information from the SWaT sheet for students to obtain themselves. This ppt (and the attached resources) provide an overview of isolationism and causes of the economic boom in the USA. It affords students the opportunity to practice a 6 mark question on the causes of the economic boom. A student worksheet is provided at the bottom of the ppt for students to make notes on whilst revising if they wish.

This lesson has been devised for the purpose of giving the new Y6's on transition week a taste of the model and structure of history lessons. There is plenty emphasis on engagement and routine. AFL activities are incorporated into the lesson as are carousel activities, people bingo, sound clips and video links for engaging starters.
