Solving Simultaneous Equations Graphically

Solving Simultaneous Equations Graphically

(0)
A basic worksheet on plotting graphs to find intersections. I adapted the linear sheet from another author to add tables of values as my students needed this scaffolding. I also made a short worksheet with two basic quadratic graphs to plot as all the other resources I found on this had trickier quadratics. These sheets are relatively short so I used both in a single lesson. I have included editable versions so teachers can adapt as necessary.

Higher and Foundation Calculator GCSE Revision Mats. Questions come from old AQA Linked Pair Papers. Both Word and PDF versions are provided so you can edit if needed.
Year 11 Intervention Diagnostic Assessment

Year 11 Intervention Diagnostic Assessment

Designed for Higher Tier students working at a low Grade 4, this is a skills-based mini-assessment used to diagnose gaps at the start of an intervention. Needs 15 - 20 minutes. Images borrowed from Maths Genie and Corbett Maths, with thanks.
Compound Interest Introduction with Scaffolding

Compound Interest Introduction with Scaffolding

I found lots of resources with wordy exam-style compound interest questions, but not much for students who need more support. This was made for a borderline H/F Year 9 class. It was used during lockdown, hence the instruction at the end to input answers to a Microsoft Forms quiz in order to check them. The link is provided in case you want to duplicate the quiz. An editable version of the resource is provided in case you want to remove reference to the quiz. This practice resource followed on from a basic introduction to compound interest - the following lesson looked at wordy questions.
Changing the Subject of Science Formulae

Changing the Subject of Science Formulae

(2)
I made this resource for a borderline set of Year 9 students to help them practise the basics of changing the subject. I wanted to give them some physics formulae but didn’t want anything too complex, so made this little worksheet.
Labelling the Hypotenuse
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Labelling the Hypotenuse

(2)
I couldn’t find an introductory Pythagoras activity where students have to label the hypotenuse that included non-right angled triangles, so I made one. Either for students to complete themselves (perhaps a bit quick for that!) or an activity on the board. The main point I want to make here is that only right angled triangles have a hypotenuse, and we need to see the right angle labelled to know a triangle is right angled.
Introduction to Writing Algebraically

Introduction to Writing Algebraically

(9)
Based on an exercise I spotted in an antique maths textbook, this exercise is designed to build confidence in writing algebraically. Students are presented with pairs of questions: in each pair, one question involves numbers, and the equivalent question involves algebra. The idea is that if they know how to do it with numbers, then they just do the same thing with the algebra. This should be an accessible introduction to algebra, drawing on students’ existing skills. An editable version is provided, and answers are included.
Year 7 Warm Up Booklet

Year 7 Warm Up Booklet

I made this booklet for Autumn 1 2020 because I’ll be moving classrooms between each lesson. To ensure students can get started as soon as I arrive (or before I arrive!) I will hand out these warm up booklets at the start of the half-term. The booklet contains 24 lessons’ worth of warm up questions. They are all retrieval of learning from Years 1 - 6. I have used SATs questions. This booklet is editable so you can adapt it for your class. I have included answers (sorry about the quality of the scanning) but instead of using these answers, it would be better to go through the answers using a blank booklet and a visualiser.
Investigating Recurring and Terminating Decimals
mrsmorgan1mrsmorgan1

Investigating Recurring and Terminating Decimals

(2)
Students simplify the fractions using prime factors and then they use a calculator to convert the fraction to a decimal. They then look for patterns in order to work out what the rule is for whether a fraction terminates or recurs. The aim is to spot that once in simplified form, a fraction will recur if the denominator has any factor other than 2s or 5s. This activity is based on one from a 1967 calculator handbook. It interleaves prime factorisation, simplifying fractions and using a calculator. It deepens students’ understanding of how fractions are simplified and leads to new knowledge about recurring decimals.
Algebraic Function Machines

Algebraic Function Machines

(9)
This is based on a resource by Stacy Brookes, but adapted so that it’s suitable for pupils who have just been introduced to algebraic notation for the first time. I used it with a mixed attainment Year 7 class in their second lesson on algebra. We’d already looked at numerical function machines. The intention was that they’d practise basic algebraic notation such as 3 x a = 3a. I went through question 1 while they filled it in, then they completed the rest of the sheet independently.
Factorising Non-Monic Quadratics by Inspection

Factorising Non-Monic Quadratics by Inspection

(3)
This resource provides a structured approach for pupils to develop fluency in factorising harder quadratics by inspection. Initially some values are given - the difficulty level increases as the scaffolding is removed.

These resources are for mixed-topic calculator GCSE revision. This is my third set of calculator revision mats, the first set is here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/gcse-calculator-revision-mats-higher-and-foundation-12119735 and the second set is here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/gcse-calculator-revision-mats-set-2-higher-and-foundation-12128297. There are four levels: Foundation is aimed at students working at Grades 1 - 3 Foundation Plus is aimed students working at Grades 3 - 5 Higher is aimed at students working at Grades 4 - 6 Higher Plus is aimed at students working at Grades 6 - 9. I printed onto two sheets of A3 (stapled) but they would work on A4 too. Answers are provided. Editable versions are provided in case you want to change some questions to suit the level of your students. Most of the questions were taken from the excellent CIMT resources. Hope these are helpful. If you spot an error please let me know (@mathsjem).

Spot the Mistake: GCSE Maths Revision

(11)
This is a set of 10 questions for Higher tier and 10 questions for Foundation tier. In each case all but one question has been answered incorrectly. Pupils have to identify and correct the mistakes. The questions are taken from AQA Legacy Papers.
Foundation Maths GCSE Revision Workouts

Two ‘print budget friendly’ revision activities for Foundation GCSE. Students work through the questions on the sheet to revise facts and procedures for a range of topics. These resources can be printed on a single side of A4 (or A3 if you prefer). If you find any errors please let me know (@mathsjem).
