This lesson introduces learners to the contents and purpose of a business plan, we discuss the sections of a plan, we then go on to look at an infamous example of what it shouldn’t be like in Solomon’s plan presented to Claude Littner in the Apprentice. A 3 mark question with a model answer, a few short tasks before going onto creating a business plan in groups, a template has been provided. Students present back their plans to the class and the class are provided with a sheet to write WWW and EBI with their peers presentations. This double lesson introduces learners to decision trees, we break down the tree right from the very beginning, and look at how to construct one step by step, to ultimately work out the expected values of outcomes and the final net gains. Students have the opportunity to practice calculations for themselves, and then self assess with the answers on the board. We then go on to look at the advantages and disadvantages of using decision trees, followed by a 10 mark question on the usefulness of decision trees. Structure guidance and a concise model answer is provided for students to look at and improve own answers. A link to a kahoot quiz and a box plenary to finish off with. We start by looking at some scenarios where unexpected events have occured, which impact businesses adversely, we then go on to look at general scenarios that can have huge impacts on businesses and their operations, before looking at a case study on Shell, they have been creating scenario plans for a long time, and actually have a scenario plan up till the year 2100!. This set of resources includes 1x PPT and 2x word files and can be delivered over 2-3 lessons. Learners are introduced to key concepts in organisational structures such as span of control and chain of command in engaging ways i.e chinese whispers to demonstrate the negatives of a long chain of command. We look at the pros and cons of tall, flat and matrix structures, then we move on onto centralised and decentralised structures. A short case study based on cartoon characters who have switched to decentralised - a few questions to contextualize the knowledge. Students have the opportunity to learn about the supermarket industry, in particular Morrisons struggle with the budget supermarkets which led to restructuring - a 12 mark question with structure guidance and a detailed model answer to help students with peer assessments, as well as making improvements to WWW and EBI. To spice it up a bit, a group matching task, where students have to create an organisational structure - answer sheet provided so teacher can look around whilst students work on it. 3.6.2 Analysing human resource performance - AQA A Level Business

This set of resources includes 1x PPTs which can be delivered over 2 lessons. 2x word files consisting of exam practice and activities… We introduce learners to labour productivity, turnover, unit labour costs, employee costs as a percentage of revenue. We start with looking at the formulas for each one, with broken down examples to illustrate the concepts. We look at a concise case study with some information on employees and productivity, using this students complete a calculation question along with group presentations on a 24 mark essay based question on labour rentention. After presentations, students can complete the 24 marker, or it could be completed for homework, structure and indicative points are provided to help with peer assesmeents. This is followed by another case study on a construction company, who do things differently, students explore, how they keep their productivity levels up, responses to this could be done in groups and fed back to the class, we finish with a box plenary. This three lesson bundle covers 4.1.1 Growing economies area of the specification. We start by looking at what an economy is and how it is measured. Then we move on to looking at examples of emerging economies such as the BRICs and MINTs. In the second lesson we look at a case study on Lucozade attempting to challenge Coca-Cola in the USA, students then attempt a question on this, with guidance on how to achieve marks for knowledge, application, analysis and evaluation. Once they’ve answered, we look at an example model answer which students can aspire to when peer assessing and making improvements. A case study on Mark’s & Spencer entering India, again with guidance and and a model answer for students to look at for marking. This lesson introduces learners the difference between mergers and takeovers, we start by looking at the reasons why businesses may want to merge or acquire a firm in another country, e.g. to gain access to a trade bloc like the ASEAN. We then read a concise case study on the cement industry and how acquisitions have played a big role for these firms, a 10 mark question with structure guidance given and a model answer for students to peer assess with to build exam technique.
