These three lessons are for upper KS2 Involving solving problems involving the calculation and conversion of units of measure. Pupils will apply skills in converting between miles and kilometres. As well as working out the time it takes on the high seas and distance in miles to reach a location in the UK or around the world. Applying knowledge is using the time, distance speed equation to all modes of transport – air, sail boat/sea & road. Then choosing a fair trade product and the distance, speed & time it would take to reach a supermarket In lesson two and three, pupils will choose a famous explorer and explore the routes they sailed and produce they brought back to Europe and the UK. There are a number of weblinks that pupils can use to research Explorers and the routes they traveled. This six week block is for upper key stage 2 and includes lesson plans, artwork, photos and ppp 's . Based on how food has been represented through the ages by famous artists, by looking at photos of food today and evaluate them according to the media used and style. To taking photos of displays of food to then use in creating own pop art based on Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. This will lead into sketching using different resources and techniques from photos to use for a food package and study how art is used in the packaging of food. By the end of the six weeks children will use examples of artwork to design a food package by researching the web to base own ideas on. This six week art block would lead into a six week block in Design Technology that can be purchased with additional numeracy lessons. I would appreciate any feedback and reviews.

Food distribution can be affected by unfair food distribution, war, environmental disaster and climate conditions affect the lives of millions around the world. ‘Does war cause hunger?’ As Mercy Corp state ‘being hungry means more than just missing a meal. It’s a debilitating crisis that has more than 820 million people in its grip. Hunger is a perilous cycle that passes from one generation to the next: Families who struggle with chronic hunger and malnutrition consistently go without the nutrients their minds and bodies need, which then prevents them from being able to work, go to school, or improve their lives.’ Pupils will look into and discuss what things children in conflicted areas need each day for their survival. This lesson is a fun lesson that can involve teachers and support staff in the lesson. It gives pupils opportunities to find out about their level of fitness and their lifestyle they lead. Also offering opportunities to link this lesson to a maths lesson on data collection, as well as giving pupils their own personal fitness record. The lesson comes with three PE circuit fitness lessons to carry out the data collection. I have taught several classes this lesson when supply teaching, the children loved the fun involved in the circuit lesson and finding their pulses and recording their data. By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to compare and contrast how early civilizations have developed socially and culturally over time. This lesson allows pupils to explore Stone Age man through watching a number of video clips of how hunter gatherers lived in Neolithic times and how farming developed through the ages looking into the similarities and differences of Neolithic man to modern day man. This lesson will give opportunities to many questions being asked from the pupils to find answers to, and thinking about the era they would prefer to live in.

KS 2 Our lifestyle and Fitness. This bundle includes PE- circuit fitness a six week block of circuit training that includes an over view for all warm ups, main exercises and cool downs which can be extended to a 12 week block. Warm ups, main exercises and cool downs all include photos and teaching points; A PSHE lesson that explains how to take pulse rates, body measurements and recording data in a Personal Fitness Journey log. Three numeracy lessons that cross over from the PSHE lesson, children will solve problems involving calculations and conversion of different units of measure linked to our own body measurements. Calculating and converting units of measure and identify and find the pulses in our bodies during and after exercise. Finally children will analyse and interpret the data collected of the resting pulse, active pulse and recovery pulses and create bar charts to display results. Science - L2 why we should eat a balanced diet. This lesson is suitable for upper kS2 and gives opportunities to research the principles of what a balanced diet is. Understand the reasons why we should eat a balanced diet, by explaining what a balanced diet consists off. By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to give an explanation of a well balanced and healthy diet through the ‘eat well’ plate; successfully categorise the different types of food that make up our diet. Explain what the proportions are; and how we should eat them, recall the differences of good and bad fats and identify processed sugars and natural sugars in food sources. With a focus on teaching Healthy food and exercise involves a balanced diet and keeping fit. Science - L3 Diet and lifestyle on the human body. The crux of this lesson is thinking about our diet and lifestyle and the impact it has on the human body. Asking the question ‘What is obesity?’ With further investigations and watching clips on fat and how it affects the body; what diseases and health implications are there on the human body when consuming too much bad fat. Explaining what nutrients are, which foods have different nutrients in and why they are important; answering questions on: what is a healthy lifestyle? Why is it so important to eat healthily and keep fit? What foods we consider as healthy and unhealthy? Science – L5 Circulatory system. This lesson is all about the circulatory system and provides opportunities to learn and label the heart and the role of each part of the heart; the function of blood vessels and the role of the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood in the body. Invitations for a qualified first aider to visit would allow pupils to learn about CPR, the recovery position and general first aid. Maths -4 days of lessons looking at Nutritional percentages and values in food. The learning in these four lessons gives pupils opportunities to research different styles and formats of invitation cards to design their own; composing an invitation to Inform and provide information about an event. This lesson is designed for upper KS2. Giving pupils a chance to learn about which foods can be frozen; also to understand the importance of blanching vegetables before being frozen. This practical lesson involves recording and making systematic observations on the state of frozen foods that are defrosting. Having a selection of raw prepared fruit and vegetables with high water content, pupils will have a tasting session and answer questions if all fruit and vegetables can be frozen; which foods can be blanched. This science lesson would have to be taught in the morning as observations will need to be made throughout the day. Pupils will write their conclusions and evaluations on which foods and be frozen.

This unit of work is suitable for upper KS2. The learning in these five lessons gives pupils opportunities to watch different adverts and explain why they are appealing and to identify the target audience. By the end of the second lesson pupils will take notes and develop ideas why music is used in advertising campaigns; as well as identify how adverts use gender for impact. This is seen in one particular fast food advert about a young boy who can’t do what a young boy wants to do to have fun. As the week proceeds pupils will write an advert using appropriate advertising techniques and descriptive language for a full effect, as well as starting to compose a musical jingle to accompany the advert. Following this pupils will edit and improve the advertising campaign ready to record it for a radio broadcast. This lesson is for designed for upper KS2 Giving pupils a chance to understand how food freezes to preserve it from decay. Also understand why certain food products can be cooked from frozen and others have to defrost. With opportunities to Investigate and taste test which foods taste better fresh or frozen? As the lesson is a practical session the practical preparation would need to be taught first, and the results gathered the following day, as freezing the food products the day before, ahead of cooking and tasting the frozen foods as well as the same freshly prepared food on that day. The attached numeracy lesson is linked as it reinforces why it is important to follow recipe instructions and methods before cooking, as well as measuring out ingredients correctly.
