WJEC/EDUQAS AS BUDDHISM REVISION SHEETS

(1)
FOR WJEC/EDUQAS A LEVEL RELIGIOUS STUDIES AS BUDDHISM 10 Sheet Resource Here are a set of revision sheets that can be used for WJEC/EDUQAS AS Level Religious Studies Study of Religion - Buddhism Component. All aspects of the specification (A01) are present - some topics have been combined onto 1 sheet. The sheets are best printed in A3 in either colour or black and white. Students fill them in themselves at the end of each topic or as final revision before the exam. These have proved popular with my students as a way of having a summary of the main points/concepts for each part of the specification as a reference point. These sheets have also been used by my students to complement other revision sources and strategies. The sheets don’t cover every eventuality (in particular a lot of the A02 material) but provide a good source to refer back to throughout the course as prompts or as revision material for assessments or the final exam. These can provide a good opportunity for retrieval practice which helps support students’ short-term and long-term memory. Templates can easily be adapted to suit your individual needs and could perhaps be adapted for other exam boards too. These may also be useful to support students with blended learning or full online learning as well as part of normal classroom practice, homework or personal private study. Could also be useful for staff cover or absence. Every effort has been made to credit material.

WJEC/EDUQAS A2/YEAR 2 BUDDHISM: History of Buddhism in Britain Summary Timeline

WJEC/EDUQAS A2/YEAR 2 BUDDHISM: History of Buddhism in Britain Summary Timeline This is a one page resource that I produced to help students with understanding the history of Buddhism in Britain. I use it in the lesson itself when teaching how Buddhism started to grow in Britain. Students also use it as a visual aid and revision resource to secure their understanding. My students have found it useful when planning for essays on the history of Buddhism in Britain as they can see the key people they need to mention with a brief summary of their contriubution as a prompt. This is a teaching aid/revision tool/student handout. There are lots more detailed information which could be included but this is just an overall summary to support understanding. Helps students with key aspects of the specification. Designed for WJEC/EDUQAS but may be useful for other exam boards too. Resource includes both the Word (editable version) and a PDF.

WJEC/EDUQAS A2/YEAR 2 BUDDHISM - History of Buddhism in Japan Summary Map

WJEC/EDUQAS A2/YEAR 2 BUDDHISM Topic: History of Buddhism in Japan This is a 2-page resource. It gives a summary of the history of the different Japanese Buddhist Groups. This was designed to assist students with understanding the history of Buddhism in Japan as a visual aid. This part of the specification can be challenging for people to understand. Especially, if they don’t get along with/understand historical development. It covers the main bits that they need to understand. My students have found this a good visual aid for them. The first page shows a map which identifies the spread of Buddhism to Japan with a few short pieces of information to aid understanding. The second page gives summary points to explain the development of Buddhism in Japan (in an easy format to understand). This resource does not go into detail of the development nor a detailed explanation of the different Japanese practices. It is just a visual aid to assist with understanding or revision. It is also designed to help with A01 questions on the historical development of Zen, Pure Land and Nichiren Buddhism. There has been past questions on this area. There are other points related to how Buddhism arrived in Japan but this is not the focus of this resource or required to meet the demands of this specification. This may be useful for other exam boards too.

WJEC/EDUQAS AS LEVEL PHILOSOPHY OF RELIGION A02 QUESTIONS TUTORIAL This is a PowerPoint Resource designed to improve A02/Evaluation Skills for the Philosophy of Religion Component. There are a number of different ways used to improve evaluation skills. This method has proved popular with my students. It goes through everything from the introduction to the conclusion. Different sections have been highlighted to show where key words, souces of wisdom have been used etc. The tutorial starts off by giving instructions. Students then produce their section. An example is shown afterwards to compare. After this, students use the additional sheet to match different points up with the explanation/evidence to support. FOR WJEC/EDUQAS A LEVEL RELIGIOUS STUDIES AS Buddhism 4 Page Resource This resource is a Personal Learning Checklist (PLC) for the WJEC/EDUQAS AS Buddhism Unit. It follows the wording of the Specification. Learners self-assess their understanding of the specification content after the lesson, after personal reflection (going over notes) and before the exam by ticking the relevant emojis. There is a space for short notes which could aid revision or track their understanding/misconceptions. The idea is that this PLC is used throughout year for the learner to monitor their understanding at various points. I find this is much more useful than printing a copy of the specification to just sit in a folder. Can be used in person or can be set to be completed electronically. Resource includes the Word version which can easily be adjusted/adapted to suit your needs.
