A lesson focusing on analysis of dramatic monologue used in the poem ‘My Last Duchess’ by Robert Browning. The poem is annotated and there is contextual information along with group activities and individual work. Suitable for a higher ability year 10 class or a mixed ability year 11 group. Can be used to supplement an exisiting scheme of work or as a standalone lesson in the vein of an unseen poem.
KS3 Poetry Challenge SoW
An 8 lesson scheme of work designed to stretch and challenge high ability year 7 students or year 8, with a view to embedding and practising poetry analysis skills for GCSE, Prior knowledge of simile, metaphor and personification is required. A pair of lessons with a range of activities to consolidate knowledge of simile and metaphor. Students are given tasks in which they must create their own and use them in writing. The first lesson includes identifying similes in the song 'You're a Mean One, Mr Grinch'. The second focuses on using images as a stimulus.

The KS3 schemes are aimed at challenging years 7 and 8 while An Inspector Calls can be used for a high ability year 9 group or mixed ability year 10 with revision activities for year 11 at the end of the scheme. A Christmas Carol would suit a mixed ability year 10 group if following along with a read through of the text.
