An introductory lesson for Computer Games Development and Creative Media Production students exploring the purpose, power, problems and implementation of story in video games. Features a handout and presentation.
A lesson introducing students to pixel art and a pixel animation using designing Pokemon as a starting off point.
The lesson explains the history of digital pixel art in video games and then goes onto guide students through basic design choices for their practical work. The handout provides a step by step guide and information on using Piskelapp to create their pixel art.
Extension tasks: Animate design.
Create further evolutionary stages of Pokemon design.
Lesson time can be adjusted from 45 minutes for introduction to art to 3 hours for full exploration.
Internet access for all students is required.
It is recommended that the teacher explores www.piskelapp.com before delivering the session so they are familiar with the software and can assist students with design.
