The Vedic Square - Worksheet

KS2/ KS3 Worksheet. I love this! I was Tweeted a link to the following site: http://mathormagic.com/vedic_square by @toots2106 (Chris Talbot) [TES name: chris2106] This is the Vedic Square. A 9 by 9 grid that reveals patterns from the sums of the mutiplications of the numbers. Students work through the w/sheet that I have created based on the website's activity and produce all the different Vedic patterns for each digit from 1-9. I can&'t wait to use this... UPDATED to include completed grids

'Sky Sports News&' style pwoerpoint slide. Here is a powerpoint I have created to communicate to my classes their learning objectives, key words, homework, lesson aim etc all on one slide. I put this up at the start of some of my lessons as the class are coming in. The lesson aim scrolls across the bottom of the screen when the presentation is up. I use a &';slide master' for this ppt and so if you want to change the layout etc it will need to be done on the slide master!

KS3 Maths Game targeted at level 4 and level 5. This is a 'Connect Thoughts&' board. The task is played like the &';Connect 4' game where the class choose any 4 tasks to complete in a row. The rows of questions are levelled and is a great way to differentiate, I have found. For more information on how I have used see my blog post... http://mrcollinsreflectivejournal.blogspot.com/2012/01/connect-thoughts.html These can be adapted for any subject/topic RECENTLY UPDATED WITH ANSWERS

Simultaneous Equations Starter/Plenary

(6)
I used this question as a starter to consolidate learning of simultaneous equations with a top set year 10 class. Would work well as a plenary too? The question gets the students to form the simulatenous equations 1st based on a worded question using the characters from Finding Nemo!

GCSE Trigonometry Revision Sheet

(4)
I created this GCSE Trigonometry Revision sheet for my Y11 students. I printed the pdf document on A3 paper and got students to complete the questions on the sheet, adding in their own notes/mnemonics to help them remember when to use each rule/formula. The students really enjoyed doing this activity in class as part of their revision for their examinations and then took their A3 sheets home to use as part of their ongoing revision. Once the sheet was filled in, and checked/marked we used them to answer questions from text books/past exam papers. One of my students' completed sheets is attached too.

This is the second of 17 Mathematics sheets in the 'Raymond&'s Rovers&'; series of my Mathematics Sheets. I use this sheets with Year 11s for revision purposes. Questions 1-5 are aimed at Foundation Tier & Questions 6-10 are aimed at Higher Tier To find out more about how they can be used follow this link to my blog: http://mrcollinsreflectivejournal.blogspot.com/2011/08/mr-collins-table-sheets.html
Mathematical Concepts Wall Display

Mathematical Concepts Wall Display

(6)
This is an idea I got from the Wellcome Collection in Euston. Students choose one or two of the words on the reverse of the card (will need to be printed double sided) and then these get displayed on the wall display - A display created solely by students having printed off the cards! To see more about this view by blog post at http://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/mathematical-concepts-wall-for-want-of.html
'Thubbles' or Thought Bubbles

'Thubbles' or Thought Bubbles

(2)
Here is a set of 4 'Thubbles' that I use every now and again to re-engage my learners. The idea is that the students fill in the thought clouds with an appropriate suggestion of what the characters are thinking! You get some rather interesting ideas! I used to use this in Cover lessons when I was waiting for work.
Learning Task Generator

Learning Task Generator

(2)
I use the following ppt to generate the task my students will do in order to show their learning. i.e. if we were doing a lesson on percentages I would run the random learning generator, if 'do the task as a facebook page' came up the class would create a facebook page around percentages. There are 50 different tasks the students could do. Adds a bit of spontenaity to lessons and the kids love the randomness of the activities!
KS3 Maths Adding with Negative Numbers using Golf

KS3 Maths Adding with Negative Numbers using Golf

(2)
I did a lesson on negative numbers using Golf. I gave the class an actual Golf score card that I had filled in from the local Golf Club and then got them to work out the scores for the Golfers. This gets the class using negative numbers both adding and subtracting them to work out the golfer's scores. I give the class a blank scorecard to stick in their books and they copy the details of the actual golf scorecard I give them on to this. The powerpoint explains to the class what a &'birdie&'; 'bogey&' etc are and how to calculate the scores.
