In this meaningful activity, students are invited to write a letter to their future selves at the start of the academic year.
This letter serves as a personal roadmap, outlining the goals and aspirations they aim to achieve over the course of the year. Students are encouraged to reflect on past achievements, set specific academic, personal, and social goals, and articulate strategies to overcome challenges. By visualizing their ambitions and detailing their plans, students can enhance their self-awareness, motivation, and accountability. Moreover, revisiting this letter at the end of the year allows students to see how far they’ve come and celebrate their growth, fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride in their efforts.
Through this exercise, students not only develop their goal-setting and communication skills but also cultivate resilience, self-belief, and a proactive approach to their academic journey.

I’ve used this successfully to send and track detentions whole school. Each day the tracker is sent out to form tutors after running the report on SIMS (or however you input detentions).
Form tutors then stamp the detention and change the cell to green. This enables pastoral teams to then stamp any detentions that may have been missed.
This document is saved in Excel, however, it is sent out via ‘Google Drive’ which then allows all form tutors access at the same time and the ability to edit.
The tracker also enables you to quickly identify students who have missed a detention that has been set.
