Percent of a Whole, Percent of a Number Real World Application Activity

(0)
This activity is a real world application for finding the percent of a number/whole. The "store" is throwing a sale and items are 10, 25, 50 and 75% off. Students walk around the "store" and determine original cost, percent off, new price and amount saved. This activity can be used as an assessment, practice, review or extension activity for finding the percent of a number. A lesson plan is included with store items and note sheet.

Linear Modeling Projects! (CCSS.HSF.LE.A.1)

This class project is sure to be a hit with any and all of your students! This bundle includes 3 projects in one. All the projects relate around the same idea. Students have been hired as consultants for the Baltimore Ravens, Real Madrid or Monsters University to solve some problems. Students must use the provided data to create a linear regression (line of best fit, least squares equation) in order to determine a correlation coefficient. Afterwards, students identify residuals for each piece of data. After collecting all the necessary information, students are led through questions related to the organization. When I did this in class I gave all three projects and let them choose. The choices were mixed and the students loved that they were able to individualize the days lesson depending on their interests. After students were finished each group received a reporting form. This is the form the "consultants" would hand their employer to summarize their findings. This was absolutely a hit in our class! If you don't want all three I will put each project up individually. Prediction Experiment/Lesson - What Stops an Apple from Browning?

(0)
This is a great experiment we've adapted for teaching making quality predictions or hypotheses. Students are given minimal direct instruction and practice which is followed by an experiment regarding what types of products will stop an apple from browning. This is a great prediction experiment because it can easily be done in a 90 minute period and even possible in 45 minutes!! This experiment is editable so feel free to add your own clipart! We hope you enjoy this great experiment to teach predictions.

X and Y-intercepts Scavenger Hunt (CCSS.HSF.IF.B.4)

(0)
This is a math scavenger hunt that focuses on students ability to identify x and y-intercepts of linear functions in standard and slope intercept form. This is a great practice activity or refresher from students in all types of algebra. We love these activities because they let students work independently and assess their own work. This gives them ownership of their work, which they love. We have had nothing but success using scavenger hunts in our math classes! This is definitely one of our favorites! We have bundled two of our most popular activities together for you! X and Y intercepts are an essential lesson for students in middle school math and algebra. These two activities help students practice identifying x and y intercepts from standard and slope intercept form. Both these lessons have been used in our real classrooms and are student approved. In this bundle you will receive: x and y intercept matching - students match intercepts to functions and graphs x and y intercept scavenger hunt - students determine the intercepts of a function and find the matching answer on another poster placed around the room. This scavenger hunt requires students to use knowledge of distributing a binomial to a binomial in order to convert from factored to standard form of quadratic functions. The equations have both positive and negative "a" values. This is a great review for students before a test or quiz or just to refresh their skills. The pages are already in order, which will provide you with the answers.

Imaginary and Complex Numbers Exploration Stations

(0)
This exploration station lesson allows students to discover imaginary and complex numbers with independence. After some beginning direct instruction of imaginary numbers from the teacher, students will work through 4 stations that will teach them how to simplify negative square roots, add complex numbers, subtract complex numbers and multiply complex numbers. The teacher will then lead dividing complex numbers. Each poster has an example worked out and written directions for the rules needed for each concept. A retrieval practice and homework is also provided. Our students have had more success with this strategy of teaching imaginary and complex numbers than others we have tried in the past. Students love and thrive with self exploration. If you download the item and need clarification or have questions, do not hesitate to email us. We are very prompt in our responses and will do our best to help. We understand you are using your hard earned money and respect what you do in the classroom. The Clark’s Teach Pclark4pwc@gmail.com
