The children in my class collected data in a tally chart to show which ice cream flavour was the most popular in our class. They then represented the data in a pictogram in ICT.

Phonics battleships board game. 2 player game. Provide chn with the list of words you would like them to practise. Children to place their words on the battleship board (One letter per board). Players then take turns to guess the coordinates of their words.

The children use the treasure chest and bin to read and sort words into real and nonsense words.

This reading incentive has been used successfully in Year 1. Photos of the children were printed and laminated so that every time they read 10 more times they would visit a new setting which was placed on the wall in a line. Prize stars were placed on particular settings so the children were rewarded for their reading achievements.

Table Top English Word bank book These have been used in Year 1. They were laminated and fastened together using metal hoops. The children were then encouraged to use them regularly during their work. I did plan to create 'Maths Top Tips' books but haven't got round to it yet! These have been used in Year 1. The children get into pairs. Partner 1 is the teacher and points to the word, Partner 2 reads the word. They then swap over so that they both get to read all of the words. It is the ‘teachers’ job to support their partner to self correct the words. Once complete the children put sound buttons on the words and then practise writing them on the back of the sheet.
