This is an introductory unit for Year 12 English Language, which covers all frameworks such as: graphology, lexis and semantics, grammar and syntax, phonetics and phonology, discourse, pragmatics, as well as an introduction to genre, audience, purpose, representation and context. There are lessons for each framework and a homework booklet which corresponds with the lessons too. Could be used as the first unit in Year 12 and encourages students to see the bigger picture to improve context through some of the text choices.

Full SOW for accent and dialect - this would usually take 6-8 weeks, taught 3 hours a week, with assessment time included. Covers all skills and terminology required for students. There is a homework booklet attached too and we usually get students to complete article review homework tasks as additional homework tasks to allow them to recognise the style of writing that they need to adopt for opinion articles (the articles themselves aren’t included but the review sheet is). This SOW covers case studies on a range of accents/dialects such as geordie, Yorkshire, Scottish dialects, Standard English. There are scaffolds to help to support students with writing in all 3 question styles and a range of exemplars to exemplify the appropriate writing style too. There are a range of video clips to help students to recognise the different dialects and the way they sound.

This is a fully comprehensive unit of work, which should cover approximately 7-8 weeks worth of lessons (based on 5 hours a week). It aims to introduce students to the four theoretical frameworks of the AQA A Level Media Studies course. It also covers a brief introduction to different media forms that the students will need to be familiar with. There are exemplar answers, exam questions and a homework booklet covering a range of iconic media products designed to supplement students’ learning. This unit aims to introduce students to every theory that the exam board requires them to know about and has a specific focus on unseen media language, unseen media theory question and questions 5.1 and 5,2. The aim would be to give students an understanding of the different theories and frameworks prior to studying any products in depth. The selected products are considered iconic too, which will help students to link to wider examples from the media industry.
