This is a fully resourced lesson on developing graph skills. Developed for a KS3 science class, but suitable for KS4 and maths classes. Includes: A starter on comparing different types of charts Definitions of independent and dependent variables with reference to a cress seed practical previously undertaken A task where pupils decide on the 5 most important things needed to draw a good line graph Rules for graph drawing (also included on a separate sheet to be printed and stuck in their books) Examples of good graphs, which you can discuss with the class A worksheet including 3 experiments with data for pupils to present in graphs A mini quiz plenary with answers I provided photocopies of a pre-drawn graph layout with labelled axes for experiment 1, a pre-drawn graph layout with a number scale for experiment 2, and asked pupils to create the graph for experiment 3 from scratch.
