This is a lesson that I taught to a top set year 9 class and was rated outstanding. It could easily be used for Y11 as it is very challenging!
The lesson focuses on Romeo's soliloquy and introduces students to astrological theories in order to analyse language more fully. They are encouraged to make links to the rest of the play throughout.
The lesson is differentiated by splitting students into pathways for the main activity and providing a modern translation of the soliloquy. There are also notes for teachers to suggest routes of questioning to encourage students to extend their thinking.
If you like the look of this lesson, please see the 22 lesson scheme it is taken from - a bargain at £16.
Lesson 4 and 5 of this scheme based on The Crucible. This also includes a weekly quiz to test understanding of taught content so far.
