A booklet which gives pupils a clear structure to answer the 40-mark question on the GCSE exam. Can be used as a unit of work in class (6-7 lessons) or given to pupils to work through at home/as independent work. Pupils are taken through the structure, one step at a time, with opportunities to practice as well as high-quality models provided. A proven approach which can be used from Year 7 onwards to support with building effective descriptions/narratives.

A 6 week, fully resourced scheme of work on Animal Farm. Would be suitable for Year 7 or Year 8 pupils - easily differentitated up for Year 9. The scheme starts by building key skills such as inference and writer’s intention, before moving on to some context and the novella itself. Detailed PPTs begin with a ‘do now’ activity (all questions based on core knowledge and vocabulary rather than plot) as well as introducing a tier-2 key word which is relevant to the lesson. There are a range of activities, differentiated (structure strips and differentiated resources included) and every lesson ends with an exit ticket.

A 50 lesson booklet (in which a cold-read of the text is included for 8 lessons) that covers the novella in its entirety and includes a knowledge organiser. Each lesson begins with a knowledge recap, key tier two vocabulary and and an activity before moving on to the lesson. Booklet is designed to be used exclusively, with extended writing tasks signposted to be completed in exercise books bu this can be easily adapted. Language Paper 1 skills are also covered in this booklet.

This lesson was delivered to a top set Y10 class for a PM observation as was graded a 1 - comprehensive and ready to teach.
