AQA New 9-1 GCSE Exemplar folder, Student Guide, Checklist and Tracker [now with comments] Updated!

(2)
An exemplar folder produced to accompany the new AQA GCSE to illustrate how students can approach the NEA. This is NOT endorsed by the AQA but is produced by an experienced designer, teacher, moderator and consultant to reflect expectations for a Level 9 NEA project. It is supported by a new GCSE student guide, a checklist (which should not be used as a writing frame) and a tracker and grade prediction spreadsheet which uses grade boundaries derived from the boundaries on the old spec. There will be no official boundaries for some time so this will help you to give some prediction in the meantime. This now includes a comprehensive assessment spreadsheet that generates comment banks to minimise requests for remarks. Updated August 2018 with a new exemplar folder, student guide and a tracker with 26 name slots.

GCSE 9-1 Design and Technology Assessment Sheet (basic version) please see description

(1)
Based on the AQA syllabus for GCSE Design and Technology for first teaching from 2017. The spreadsheet contains three sheets; one for the NEA, a mock exam assessment based on the existing theory paper and one based on the sample material supplied by the AQA. By entering assessment criteria for each objective, the spreadsheet will show on overall grade with a traffic light system (red C or below, amber, C to A and Green A or higher). The look up table will then present a grade or level from the overall score. This is based on an existing spreadsheet which has been successful in accurately predicting grades for over 15 years. The grade boundaries can be changed once the subject is live but you can be well prepared in advance with this resource. PLEASE NOTE: This has been replaced with an updated version that provides a more detailed breakdown of marks with comments banks and more assessment potential but this is left here at a reduced price should anyone want a simple spreadsheet to work with.

Design and Technology Data Tracking Progress 8

(0)
Based on two projects per year, this can be adapted for a number of projects and uses levels with grade comparisons to determine if positive progress is being made in line with Progress 8 measures. Rather than levels of progress, it uses a set level regardless of the students age so an A grade in Year 7 might require a different set of criteria than an A grade in Year 9. Using this method, an equivalent level can be awarded and, with the target level input at the end of Year 6, this can be used as a tracking/progress system. Additionally, it uses 10 key assessment criteria in a design project to ensure a fair and realistic attainment 8 grade for a project. It is quite experimental given the lack of definitive direction regarding Progress 8 but can be used to adapt your own assessment methods.

Braille Box 3D model for the D&T GCSE exemplar folder

(0)
This is the Braille Box project which was created to support the GCSE exemplar folder available to purchase separately or as part of a bundle. In this ZIP file are all the parts and assembly for you to demonstrate the model in Solidworks. Also included are working drawings and renders of the project to demonstrate what can be achieved with your CAD software. Finally, all parts have already been converted to .stl format so you can 3D print your own working model to support your teaching. Combined with the other supporting GCSE materials, and the exemplar folder, you have a high quality resource to inspire pupils and to help them aspire to achieving the highest level at GCSE. Updated September 2018 with a new model that can use standard diameter compression pins and a keyring logo to 3D print.
