Angelina Adjective who teaches children how to spot and use adjectives in sentences as well as how to apply suffixes using spell spelling rules. Vera Verb and her ‘helpful’ brother Vic who teach children all about verbs, suffixes and tenses too and Finally Norbet Noun and his newt named Neil who teach children the difference between proper nouns and ordinary nouns as well as teaching them the plural rules. Meet the /ure/ family one of the twenty vowel sounds in the English language. Children practise reading and spelling words containing this phoneme using sound spots as support. The end of the lesson children practise these spellings in dictated sentences. Use the phoneme dash and vowel family spelling mats to further support children’s spellings, both available in my shop. A slideshow for supporting children with quick recall of the graphemes for both the long and short sounds a, e, i, o and u. The graphemes are presented in phoneme families and have the phoneme family character present to support children with recalling the correct phoneme. I remind children of the family name to help them remember e.g. "This is the Grey family all their graphemes make the sound ‘ai’ . The first slides are all short vowel sounds.

phonic screening revision activities

Four games designed to support children in rehearsing their phonics skills prior to the phonic screening test. Children use their phonics skills to translate the alien language. In these games the children take on the role of aliens, they learn how to ask and answer questions like an alien. solve an alien treasure hunt and also create their own alien words. Most words have been used in past test papers. This activity is designed to be carried out over a number of days or as a carousel of activities throughout the day I have enclosed three copies of the slideshow. The Word Wizards are a group of wizards who explain word types and their jobs to children. In this presentation you will meet Norbert Noun and his newt named Neil who together explain the difference between a proper and a common noun and the need for a capital letter. They also explain the plural rules and have some handy suffix spells to help children remember as well as this children learn about noun phrases.
