IB PYP Key Concepts Question Cards for Any Age Level

IB PYP Key Concepts Question Cards for Any Age Level

(0)
Conceptual learning begins by understanding how to think conceptually and to formulate concept-based questions. These cards are ideal for developing understanding of the IB PYP Key Concepts as well as helping children to focus their thinking and develop higher level questioning skills. The cards are differentiated for Grades K-2 and Grades 3-6. Each card contains sentence stems for guiding the children’s thinking and structuring their questioning as they formulate their own questions with anything. Easy to print and keep in a box or a ring on table groups. I prefer to give each child their own set that they keep in their desks for easy access to use at ANY time and for ANY subject. I have seen children referring to the cards for formative assessments and reflections, for setting goals, for developing their own lines of inquiries as well as within literacy and maths. Perfect for collaborative thinking activities and encouraging accountable talk within discussions. Enjoy! Susan PYPteachingtools.com

IB PYP Inquiry Cycle Bulletin Board Signs

Use these signs as a part of your IB PYP inquiry board to highlight the area of the inquiry process that you are working on. Or to record the children’s work as they progress through the inquiry cycle. There are two sets ,with options for text only or text plus images, so that you can choose which best suits your students and their level. The first set of signs are coloured and worded to align with Kath Murdoch’s inquiry cycle that is commonly used within many IB PYP schools. The second set of signs are another option for you to choose, if you prefer alternative vocabulary for your inquiry cycle or you can mix and match the wording. IB PYP & MYP Developing Critical Thinking Task Cards

IB PYP & MYP Developing Critical Thinking Task Cards

(0)
Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly, rationally and progressively about a problem or belief. It includes the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking, making connections and solving problems. Critical thinking is not content knowledge or even evidence of understanding. While it involves and certainly requires these ideas, critical thinking is also very much a state of mind – a willingness and tendency to sit with an idea and ‘struggle wonderfully’ with it. This is part of the inquiry mindset! And this is what we want to encourage and develop further. These printable task cards are a terrific way to actively practise the inquiry mindset and build critical thinking skills, as per the Approaches to Learning Thinking skills . The task cards can be used in a variety of ways that encourage the children to reflect and really puzzle through problems and scenarios as they are asked to reflect on situations that require analysing, synthesising, categorising and evaluating, present doubt, possible antagonism, confidence issues and other difficulties. As you help the children with these thinking skills in a safe, familiar environment, it will greatly benefit them throughout school and particularly as they approach the IB PYP Exhibition. A great collaborative thinking activity, ideally suited for 4th – 7th grades. I’m not going to pretend; some are tricky! Suggestions: Whole class - sitting in circle, each child will have a card to read aloud and then share their opinion. These can be discussed as you go around the circle. Teacher led – read aloud a card to a small group and have them interact with each other to solve the problem or scenario. Small groups- Place a pile of cards face down in the middle of the group. Each person will take a turn to read a card, act out or offer their opinion and then those can be discussed within the group. Independent work - Each child can work with a few cards and write or draw how they would solve the social problems presented on the task cards. You will find 32 task cards ready to print and go. Create Your Own IB PYP Learner Profile Posters Watercolour Digital Edition

These beautiful watercolour posters are all ready for you to have the children think critically about the descriptors of the IB PYP Learner Profile and then add their own text digitally, before printing them. I like to have the children work on the descriptors collaboratively, in small groups – each researching the definitions, critically evaluating the best way to summarise them and finally creating their own. It is a great way to reinforce an awareness of our Learner Profile as the children learn what it means to possess those attributes of a learner and be an active part of the creation of the posters. They’re then a beautiful reference to be used in your classroom all year long. These contain all of the IB Learner Profile attributes for both the PYP and the MYP, including options of risk taker/courageous and thinker/global thinker. In addition, there are printable versions that can be used for writing the descriptors for each attribute, if that is your preference. You can find that edition by clicking right here. IB PYP Learner Profile Watercolour Posters with Positive Affirmations

(0)
These beautiful watercolour posters contain the ever powerful words, “ I AM “ and they are designed around the IB PYP and MYP Learner Profile. They are designed to act as a reference point of the attributes of the Learner Profile, rather than descriptors. ( If you’d like this design as posters for your classroom, I also have a set where the children will create the descriptors themselves, for each attribute, as a part of their learning and reflection of their own Learner Profile. You can find the editable version for that resource here. ) These contain all of the IB Learner Profile attributes for both the PYP and the MYP, including options of risk taker/courageous and thinker/global thinker. The posters come in full size and half size. In addition, there are many more positive affirmations that were created by my fifth graders through their own reflections and for the benefit of other kids out there such as: I am enough I am strong I am a great friend etc. There are a couple of editable sheets in a separate file for you to add your own affirmations as you see fit. Included are mirror-image posters that have the text backwards. When held up to a mirror, they will read the correct way around. I LOVE to use these as a fun way to promote positive affirmations. I leave them in our reading corner, beside a mirror, and smile as I watch the children work their way through the positive affirmation posters.  Positive affirmation posters are a lovely way to spread the power of positivity throughout your classroom. I make sure that the posters are placed in high-traffic areas, such as in our library area, by the sink, the pencil sharpeners etc. I also change them up frequently. I don’t want the message to become a part of the wallpaper, so to speak. I want the children to notice the messages every single day. Complete with fun props, which are entirely optional, you could have a full blown Oscar worthy performance! With hats, speech bubbles and masks, let the children decide how to perform this funny Halloween tale. Perfect for literacy groups with 11 in the cast. It is easy to differentiate based on the characters. The script is designed for 3rd-5th grade. With a focus on the traditional lyrics of The Teddy Bear’s Picnic, this drama will reinforce the children’s understanding as well as reinforcing reading fluency. The humour takes it from a little kids’ song to a big kids’ play. The performance takes approximately 10 minutes once rehearsed. The props are easy to print and go, with simple preparation involving nothing more than construction paper, paper plates or lollipop sticks, scissors and glue. It usually takes us 5-7 days of preparation through our guided reading time, from analysing the original lyrics to reading and practicing the script, as well as creation of the props. Bring this engaging and funny reading activity into your classroom this Halloween and enjoy the kiddos’ creativity. You may also like these scripts too, also with props. Who W Are Design A T Shirt Back to School Activity

Getting to know your students with this self reflection activity is a win-win, as you encourage them to think critically about the questions in each section of their t shirt. Their thinking is recorded with drawings rather than simply written answers. The back of the t-shirt focuses specifically on Learner Profile and requires a written answer. Throw in some arts and crafts to create the head and shoulders as a self portrait and the final product is a beautifully colourful product that allows everyone to learn a bit more about one another. These look fabulous hanging from the ceiling for back to school night. UK & USA spelling included. With options for more traditional ‘getting-to-know-you” questions as well as the IB PYP transdisciplinary themes, the children have to think about what each theme means to them or how they can answer the questions, illustrating their thinking within the shape on the t shirt, which requires a bit more thought and planning. The back of the t shirt brings the vocabulary of the Learner Profile into review and requires the children to really reflect on themselves as learners. Easy to print and construct, the kids absolutely love this activity which is perfect for back to school, student led conferences and a fun reflection activity.
