Climate Change 2020 - a Geography in the News Quiz

(0)
This is a 2020 special edition of my fortnightly Geography in the News quiz. This quiz focuses on the latest news on climate change and can be used at any time during the school year when it fits your teaching programme. I intend to publish this climate change edition each year updating it with the latest available climate change news. This quiz will suit students from upper primary school to upper high school. Great way to help students investigate the latest news available on climate change. The quiz is made up of five mapping questions plus fifteen multiple choice questions + answers. Answers are on the second page of the answer sheet file so that students can’t take a sneak look at them on the TES website. The quiz is a PDF that you can download and print for your classes. The quiz is coloured but will photocopy well as b/w. How are schools using Geography in the News? As a quiz that can be completed in as little as 6 minutes. Group research. As homework exercises that students can research the answers from a range of news websites. Weekly group competitions within the class over a term or the year. Weekly school geography competitions to promote the subject. As a discussion starter. In whatever way Geography in the News is being used it has been seen to engage students in Geography and improve their geographic knowledge by taking them beyond the classroom. A weekly version of the Geography In The News quiz for Australian schools is available by subscription by following this link: https://www.geographyfocus.com/?page_id=204 Comments from teachers using the quiz: “… I have received only positive feedback from my Geography teachers. The students look forward to it each week and it has motivated them to become more aware of world events and current affairs. It doesn’t take too long before they make an effort to watch the news in order to win the title of Geo Hero for the week” “Fantastic idea. My students have become so engaged with world news and learning how geography is applied in the real world”. Geography in the News … a great way to engage your students with the world of Geography outside the classroom!
