5 powerpoints and resources for 5 English lessons exploring a story from the Scandinavian culture - The Nisse.
This is a story of a creature who is similar to Father Christmas , but different. The story has been written to include KS2 writing skills such as relative clauses, parenthesis, powerful description, sentence openers and conjunctions.
The main structure of the story is a creature gives a family a warning which they ignore, then bad things happen, before a resolution where everything is ok again.
The week's lessons take you through summarising the story, writing character descriptions, setting descriptions, an alternative opening and planning their own version of this story.
Each day there are starters focusing on:
Word class verbs, drawing what you imagine, grammar games, parenthesis quiz,
Activities in the week include - editing and improving example sentences, using relative clauses, speech punctuation, comparing setting descriptions and highlighting writing techniques (relative clauses, sentence openers, adjectives, personification, parenthesis and conjunctions), counting points for use of these and adverbs, similes and metaphors, acting out ideas and expanded noun phrases.
All resources and detailed plan included.
All reviews welcome.
This could be used at any point in the year or quite effectively in term 2 to link to Christmas.
