Three sheets of differentiated original word problems for adding and subtracting fractions. Each sheet gradually becomes more difficult, with a range of contexts covered. Suitable for KS2, written for year 5, easily adaptable for all other years. Sheet 1 (LA) Colouring in fractions in order to do repeated addition and subtraction. Then simple calculations using the same denominator. Sheet 2(MA) Adding and subtracting calculating word problems using the same denominator. Then problems with different denominators, moving onto word problems adding and subtracting mixed numbers and improper fractions. Sheet 3 (HA) Word problems - adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators, improper fractions and mixed numbers, percentages and decimals. They will need to convert percentages and decimals to fractions in order to add or subtract with them. Final questions ask for reasoning and diagrams to prove mathematical understanding.
