Using Peer Assessment in MFL

Peer assessment is a GREAT way to save timing marking and encourage students to think carefully about their work. This also gives students time to reflect on their mistakes and improve them. I have attached a few examples of peer assessment forms that I have used in my French/Spanish lessons. The forms can be adapted easily based on the topic you are teaching. I have used these forms these peer assessment forms in year 7 all the way up to year 11! Super easy to use for students and easy for teachers to instantly see what students have included/not included in their work and work on targets.

Objectives of the lesson: To revise vocabulary to describe what your town is like and describe what rooms there are in your house. This resource was originally designed for a mixed ability year 7 class but can also be used for year 8 classes. Activity 1: Dictation. The teacher reads the complete version of the text and students fill in the gaps. This allows students to practice their listening skills and encourages them to also think about spelling of important words. There are two texts with different gaps - one for more able students with more gaps and another with less gaps. The complete version of the text with answers is also available. The students can also orally translate a part of the text. Activity 2: There is a reading comprehension based on a new text with a mix of questions for different abilities. There is a set of true and false questions and then there is a set of questions where students must elaborate on their answers. All answers can also be found on the slides. Activity 3: Revision of the verb IR - students will have recognised different forms in the text. Activity 4: Matching up vocabulary to describe what there is in your house. Activity 5: A picture dictation: the teacher describes a house and the various rooms including extra details. Students draw on their mini whiteboards an outline of the house. There is a template available for students to follow and then add the rooms. The students can also lable the house they draw with any extra details they hear like adjectives. A complete representation of the house can be found on the slides. I hope you enjoy using this powerpoint! Gracias

Numeros y cantidades - la comida

Objective: to revise numbers and be able to describe quantities of food in Spanish. The lesson was originally designed for a year 8 class. This lesson would be good for a cover lesson or a less teacher led lesson. There are a few activities that are simple for students to complete with minimum guidance. I originally used this for a challenging class with many behaviour issues and they worked better with back to back exercises. Activity 1 - Revision of numbers. Students have to match the Spanish correctly to the numbers. Answers are included. Activity 2 - Students translate the quantities from Spanish to English. Answers are included. Many were able to distinguish answers quickly with the help of cognates and this was also a good opportunity for students to use dictionaries and work independently. Activity 3 - A listening exercises where students write the quantities for each food. The listening track is on the slide and all answers are included. Activity 4 - Reading comprehension with questions in English. Answers are provided. Activity 5: - Signature dish writing task to summarise all of the above.
