This resource is aimed at a able Year 9 class to deliver the "On est allés au carnaval!" topic. Objectives: Learn about an event in France Use the present, past and future to talk about different events --> To be able to talk about an event using 3 tense Activity 1: Starter - recap on the past tense Activity 2: Listen and put the pictures in order Activity 3: Indicate whether the sentence is in the past, present or future tense Activity 4: Revision of time phrases to go with each tense Activity 5: Speaking using the past present and the future tense Activity 6: Listen and indicate whether the conversation is in the past, present or future tense Activity 7: Dice game to practice tenses. One dice represents the tenses in group A and the other dice represents the verbs in group B. Students in pairs have to join the words together into a phrase/sentence accurately. Or one person creates a sentence and the other translates into English. Activity 8: Read and translate the questions and answers Activity 9: Write about a celebration using all three tenses All answers are available on the slides. Objective: To learn how to form the passé composé of regular -er verbs in French to be able to describe what you did last weekend. This resource was originally designed for a year 8 French class (their first year of French) but can be used with Year 7 and lower set year 9. Activity 1 - revision of past tense time phrases and regular -er verbs. Activity 2 - explanation of the past tense in English then the equivalent in French. This then leads to an explanation of how the passé composé is formed. There is a 4 step guide for students. Activity 3 - mini whiteboard activity to practise forming the past tense. This gradually gets more difficult. Activity 4 - A speaking questionnaire activity. Activity 5 - Putting sentences from the present tense into the past tense Activity 6 - Translating from English to French. Activity 7 - A writing task. LO: to be able to give descriptions of my town using the imperfect tense This resource can be used as an introduction or revision of the Imperfect tense. It is detailed and to the point. This resource will allow students to use the imperfect tense using the most common verbs - tener, haber, estar and ser. This verbs are key to form the imperfect tense and a variety of activities are included - vocabulary, match up, translation, reading and writing. This lesson focuses on helping students to fully grasp the use of the imperfect tense for descriptions. The lesson can be easily adapted to describing a school instead of a town. It has scaffolded activities and is also suitable for a mixed ability class. I have started with the present tense of these verbs, then introduced the imperfect and then this leads to using both the present and the imperfect in translation and writing work. A resource designed specifically for Y8 middle and top set. However this can be used across KS3 and KS4. The first activity includes a short text created on Enrique Iglesias with questions to answer in English. The vocabulary can be differentiated if you would like to use it for KS4. Answers are attached. The second activity has the Bailando song lyrics and students have to fill in the gaps. There is a box with the missing words which students can choose from. However, this can be taken away if aimed at a more able class. All answers are available on the slides. Lastly, students can write a short paragraph saying whether they like or dislike the song. Peer assessment is a GREAT way to save timing marking and encourage students to think carefully about their work. This also gives students time to reflect on their mistakes and improve them. I have attached a few examples of peer assessment forms that I have used in my French/Spanish lessons. The forms can be adapted easily based on the topic you are teaching. I have used these forms these peer assessment forms in year 7 all the way up to year 11! Super easy to use for students and easy for teachers to instantly see what students have included/not included in their work and work on targets.
