This sequence of lessons for the writing process follows some of the features of talkforwriting if you are familiar with them. Even if you are not, the lessons are very clear and each lesson includes a slide with ‘Teacher Notes’ - please read these to give you more guidance.
Each lesson includes clear success criteria checklists for pupils to follow
Lesson 1 - Introduction to the example recount text- listening task and summarising task
Lesson 2 - Features of a recount text and hot seating characters
Lesson 3 - Talkforwriting - text mapping process
Lesson 4 - Talkforwriting - text mapping process
Lesson 5 - Exposure to another recount text with comprehension questions (could be used as a Guided Reading lesson)
Lesson 6 - Planning own recount
Lesson 7 - Begin writing own recount
Lesson 8/9 - Continue/finish writing own recount + editing
Teacher can choose to extend the independent writing process from lessons 7-9 depending on class age/ability

TASK 3 - Using a prefix to create a word
TASK 4 - Using a suffix to create a word
TASK 5 - Circling the correct homophone
TASK 6 - Accurately able to spell the Year 3 and 4 Exception words
TASK 7 - Editing a short paragraph by making improvements to it
This can be used as a formal/informal form of assessment to assess where children are based on the above grammar objectives. The results can be used to inform future English planning and/or to target specific children.

All of the texts above have been written by a primary teacher who is teaching the NC. Each text includes a wide range of language features that are part of the NC English Writing Objectives.
These texts can be used in Guided Reading lessons or as example texts for writing units.
This is a short writing process for biographies (Year 3 -4)
Lesson 1 - Introduction to features of a biography and reading example text about Tesla + includes a word document of the example text
Lesson 2 - Reading another example text about Obama and answering comprehension questions
Lesson 3 - Planning a biography and doing research (might need two lessons for this - teacher to decide)
Lesson 4 - Start the writing process using plans from previous lesson (teacher to model writing in front of all pupils and decide how long their class needs for this writing process)
