This resource was used as part of a lesson observation with a lower set. The resource includes a differentiated starter task and also two main tasks where students annotate the scene using prompts. This is to be done in pairs. It also has a plenary. The main outcome of this lesson is to show how the different social classes influences The Policeman’s treatment of both Ms Johnstone and Mr Lyons.

This is a comprehensive overview of a scheme of work I created as Head of English. This links to the specific reading and writing strands from the National Curriculum. Each half termly topic for Year 7-9 links to the learning outcomes which are in individual tables. Therefore making it a 64 page word file which is sufficient for any inspection. NB: This is specific to a curriculum I created for the upcoming academic year and my own scheme of work.

This lesson starts by taking students real-life knowledge into account by starting the class by asking students to write how the weather outside makes them feel? The lesson then builds on this knowledge by giving students extra information. The main activity is to read a chapter from The Hobbit where pathetic fallacy is used.

This lesson analyses the poetic techniques used withing Singh Song. The lesson focuses on word play, tone and the context of the poet amongst others. It also asks students to take ownership and analyse the poem and asks students several questions throughout.

In this lesson we focus on some of the key themes within the novel. This is also a close marking assessment preparation class whereby students go through different tasks to prepare for this. The lesson is structured in such a way whereby students start with a ‘Do Now’ and have an opportunity to give their points across through classroom discussion and think-pair-share. This is a PowerPoint that I used with a mixed ability Year 7 group. This could also be used with a year 6 group in Primary. This is a lesson where students really enjoyed the mixture of many activities that get the best from students and is student-led. Banquo’s Ghost scene is one of the key scenes within Macbeth. This lesson allows students to imagine they are 1) Banquo’s Ghost and 2) The Attendants at the Banquet. This is done by a visual aspect via a video where it allows the students feel as if they are present. They also have to highlight Lady Macbeth’s role in this scene before close analysis of the scene in pairs.

This is a lesson plan I made for an observation for Year 7 with War Horse. This can be used in a SoW or as revision material. The main task for this is for students to attempt their own PEEL paragraph after they have chosen their friendships and quotes from the text. There is also a PowerPoint of this lesson in which I used for an observation also.

This lesson was for a Year 9 class but can be used for any KS3 class for students to think about their future. The lesson is cross-curricular as it asks students to think of their Option Choices for Year 10 and what job they would like to do in the future. This lesson is after another lesson entitled “Who are You?” and is available too as a bundle. The main task is a small article with a comprehension in relation the the question: What would you like to do when you grow up? This PowerPoint lesson is in relation to mainly chapter 3 ‘The Snatch’ but also refers to previous chapters. The main activity within this PowerPoint is where students use their imagination and put themselves in Sophie’s shoes and use the ‘negative feelings’ sheet to help them describe when The BFG took them. It also has a PDF of a ‘Missing’ Poster that students can do in class or for homework.

This lesson focuses on the demise of Curley’s Wife in chapter 5. This is primarily a reading lesson of chapter 5 and does have the structure below. The lesson is structured in such a way whereby students start with a ‘Do Now’ and have an opportunity to give their points across through classroom discussion and think-pair-share. This lesson explores the marriage of Romeo and Juliet at the end of Act 2 Scene 2. There is an extract exercise included where students explorer the connotations and Juliet’s view on love. Also a paired exercise for Romeo’s and Friar’s contrasting attitudes in Act 2 Scene 3.

Sheets that are used for students to analyze some of Macbeth’s soliloquies in the play. The resource has the soliloquy and poses questions for the students to have an in depth analysis.

This lesson is one whereby students will have a close marking assessment piece of writing to complete. This is midway through the SoW for Mice and Men and is used to improve students writing through feedback.
