This resource is used after a mock examination to make students more reflective on what area’s of improvement they need to study. The booklet is 10 pages in total and asks students to rate their confidence in each question out of 10. It then ask a series of questions to make students reflect on their mock and how to improve. Students then rate each Non Fiction text, Section B Text Types and Topics before writing a “To Do List” which promotes independent study. I have used this with both of my Year 10 and Year 11 students after their mock examinations and they found it very beneficial. Exam: IGCSE Pearson EDEXCEL English Language A

A PowerPoint resource for the poem Dulce et Decorum est by Wilfred Owen. It starts with a small bio to uncover the context of the poem. The poem is broken into smaller stanzas so the students can engage with the poem. Many key words are underlined and a description of the poems meaning given. Questions are posed to promote class discussion.

A presentation I used for my students to plan a question from the 2009 Leaving Certificate examination. The emphasis is on the students to plan their own answer to the question after being prompted by certain themes and Q&A discussion within the class.

A differentiated recap on Blood Brothers. The resource includes 2 seperate worksheets: One for mixed ability for written answers and the other for lower ability which asks multiple choice questions.

This is a simple resource for group work/pair work to annotate important quotes from Hamlet. There are 5 sheets in total on an A4 landscape sheet.

This lesson analyses Bishop’s In the Waiting Room in a stanza by stanza manner by pointing out certain poetic techniques. This comes after students are asked for their first impression of the poem as a starter.

This lesson focuses on Stave one of ‘A Christmas Carol’. The lesson gives students awareness of the many techniques uses such as pathetic fallacy to create such an atmosphere. The lesson starts with the students’ first impression of Scrooge by analysing an extract describing Scrooge. It also makes students aware of such things as plot, character relationships and dialogue etc.

Analysis of Elizabeth Bishop’s ‘First Death in Nova Scotia’ where it analyzes style, theme of life and death and also gives a background into Bishop’s other poetry in terms of content.

This is a revision lesson of Elizabeth Bishop’s ‘The Fish’ and ‘The Prodigal Son’. This analyzes the theme of nature, imagery and also other poetic techniques from both poems. It also gives a small background of Bishop.

This is a very good resource that I gave to my examination students who are using recording devices or typing their examination answers. The questions within the feedback sheet were given after their mocks but can be also used for in-class preparation. The answers will give you knowledge of what the student hopes to focus on so you can plan what improvements need to be targeted.

A PowerPoint presentation that analyses Bertie and Lionel's relationship in The Kings Speech. There are links to two particular scenes showing the development of the relationship embedded in the PowerPoint which are used for students to analyse. Students are then asked to work in pairs to create a timeline of this relationship. Students have clear aims from the start and deep analysis of the relationship is explored using questioning, visual prompts, pair and individual work.

A PowerPoint which studies key scenes that Lady Macbeth is involved in as part of an assessment question. There are questions embedded within the PowerPoint and also analysis of extracts.

This can be used for an English or Extra English class. Within the PowerPoint it prompts students to think of the context and the books setting. This leads students to use empathy with the characters within the book.

This lesson is for a Year 8 lower ability group for the ‘Redevelopment’ section. The lesson begins by asking students their prior knowledge of a HIC and LIC. There is a gap fill exercise, mind-map activity followed by a video where students extend their mind-mapping. Lesson plan included.

This PowerPoint shows students the juxtapositioning of both King Duncan and Lady Macbeth in comparison to how a king and a woman should be viewed in society. Through a series of tasks that get students thinking of each character, only to find Shakespeare portrays them in a different way. This allows students to understand why both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth deceived King Duncan.

This lesson is in relation to food insecurity in Africa. There are several exercises within the PowerPoint that students uncover the various factors such as weather, government policy and location which leads to food insecurity.

This lesson can be done at the beginning of ‘Resources’ to give students an idea of the three essential resources: Food, water and energy. This also gives them freedom in what way they wish to approach it with a mind-mapping exercises using extended reading (not included because of copyright). It then refers it to how these three essential resources impact HIC’s and LIC’s.

This PowerPoint and remote learning instructions introduces Haikus in a simple way. It is for remote learning during the lockdown. The ‘Do Now’ exercise tests students’ prior knowledge on syllables as this is required. It then shows students an example of a Haiku, going through the structure and language. Students are then asked to watch a YouTube video for the process and then asked to create their own Haiku. The plenary is to create their own ‘Lockdown Haiku’ which can be emailed to you and the chosen winners will be on a format like Padlet.

This PowerPoint starts with a re-cap on context from Northern Ireland. It then gives students information on the many layers within the poem and also what Longley’s main message is. The students are then asked to answer questions on the poem-these are displayed within the PowerPoint and leads to discussion. Before moving to a diary entry, students are asked to choose a statement. This is to assess the students understanding of the poem before moving forward. The lesson finishes with a plenary to assess students learning. This is lesson two of Longley’s poem Wounds. The first is relating to context.
