This is a detailed scheme of work (over 40 pages) that I created as part of our new scheme of work for the upcoming academic year. The SOW places emphasis on the students’ prior learning before this unit and this is mentioned in detail at the start. Each of the 24 lessons have a similar structure and can be easily followed. The lessons for this scheme of work can also be found in my shop and are also part of a bundle.

This lesson is perfect for an English class on their first day back at school for KS3. The studied poem is ‘Summer Goes’ by Russell Hoban. The lesson primarily focuses on how the students in your class can relate to the speaker in the poem after summer ends. The resource has a PowerPoint and a copy of the poem included.

This is a lesson plan I made for an observation for Year 7 with War Horse. This can be used in a SoW or as revision material. The main task for this is for students to attempt their own PEEL paragraph after they have chosen their friendships and quotes from the text. There is also a PowerPoint of this lesson in which I used for an observation also.

This is a PowerPoint that I made for an observation. It has several different tasks including a differentiated ‘Think-Pair-Share’ task. It also has a modelled PEEL paragraph for the students to observe before they try their own PEEL paragraph while following each step.

This is a full lesson from which I was observed by an inspector. This is a Non-Fiction lesson whereby students have to think about their own lives with the main question being “Who Are You?” This lesson brought a lot of thought provoking questions to students and much intrigue. This is aimed at Year 9 students as they are about to transition into KS3 and it is linked to the ‘Growing Up’ section in their textbooks. A PowerPoint resource for Seamus Heaney's Blackberry-Picking. The poem is broken into small pieces and explained with key words underlined with several questions posed to students. The meaning of certain phrases in the poem is also explored for example Heaney's personification of the blackberries.

This lesson was given during an Ofsted observation as part of a Vocational Humanities group but it can also be used for a Geography class while studying tsunami’s. The lesson is in relation to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and opens with a movie trailer of The Impossible to give students a visual of a tsunami. Students then are to write what is happening in each diagram and use key words to describe the processes involved within a tsunami.

An introduction to Birdsong where there are several exercises to give students a context of the novel.

This lesson introduces students to Macbeth by posing questions in relations to historical context and staging at the time. Throughout the PowerPoint students have to answer questions and engage with images from the play to aid them in their understanding of the play as they read it.

This PowerPoint in an introduction to Lord Byron’s ‘When We Two Parted’. The lesson poses questions to students in terms of poetic techniques and also what message the poet is trying to portray. It then relates back to the theme of love and relationships before a plenary.
