Hi there! I'm both an English and Geography teacher in London. I am currently working in an Outstanding school which is my second Outstanding school of my career in London after teaching in both Ireland and the Middle East. My resources are both English & Geography resources where I like to give the student an active role in their learning. It is done by many activities such as Q&A sessions, exercises, group/pair-work and many others.

Advertising PowerPoint for Year 7's to give them an insight into some of the techniques used within advertising. The lesson includes going trough the basics such as terminology and also embedded YouTube clips embedded showing certain TV advertisements which can be used for Q&A sessions. You can choose your own logo's for the final pair exercise depending on your class.

This lesson focuses on Steinbeck’s use of language to create atmosphere at the start of the novel. Students start ‘Do Now’ in relation to connotations, followed by a think-pair-share to talk about other connotations. Students then read the start of the novel and answer questions before completing a main task. There is also a hinge question and plenary to check understanding. An interview lesson for a mixed ability group of year 7 students introducing them to the poem. The lesson opens by tapping into students’ initial thoughts of what things they do during Half Term Break (Mid Term Break). This, similar to the poem allows the students to empathise with Heaney through analysis of the poem through Q&A discussion and a main exercise which asks students to find poetic techniques.

This lesson covers all of Act 1 Scene 3 where both Macbeth and Banquo meet the Three Witches. The onus of this lesson is to show students the start of Macbeth’s ambition. Students are asked to ‘put themselves in the shoes’ of both Macbeth and Banquo. They then answer a series of questions before analysing small extracts that show Macbeth’s internal struggle and also ambition.

This lesson was an observation lesson for performance management to a group of Year 7 students who are studying Gothic Literature. This lesson can also be used within a creative writing unit. The lesson is structured in a way where students are given awareness of the impact of short and long sentences. There are also multiple hinge questions and plenaries to assess the learning before completing the final task which is then peer assessed.

This gives students knowledge of the context by finding information on ‘The Great Depression’ and what life was like during this time. This PowerPoint introduces students to the context behind the poem wounds and also the poet. The students complete a ‘Do Now’ and then assess their prior knowledge of Northern Ireland which then leads into discussion. They are given a background to the poet before observing the poem after completing a mini task relating to the title. There is also a YouTube video relating to Bloody Sunday which gives students a visual before completing a task on their first impressions of the poem. This is the first lesson from two where the poem will be analysed in detail-language and structure. *NB: To make this more student friendly, the comment on the Pope was removed-this can be changed at your own discretion.
