Reactions of metals, metal oxides, metal hydroxides and metal carbonates with acids. Students can practise identifying the salts, or which reactants are needed to form a particular salt. For each equation they have to produce a balanced equation. This activity has worked well with my higher ability groups as a piece of AfL. The answers are actually included within a PowerPoint presentation for you to project.
RAG Class Voting Quiz to use with Red/Amber/Green Cards
Relay Quiz - Print slides 1 – 4 single sided in a separate colour for each team. Slice and put in a pile and staple the stack so it is in numerical order. Teams have to come and collect the 1st question, take it back to their team to answer, then bring it to you (the teacher) to have it checked. If they are correct they can move on to the next question. If they are wrong, you may choose to give them some verbal feedback they can share with their team. Great AfL activity which my students LOVE!
A fun quiz of the year for AS Biology (AQA) - it is likely to overlap with other exam board specifications, but I cannot vouch for this! It contains nearly 90 Questions and it easily lasts an hour.
Covers a range of topics, particularly from Biological molecules and cells topics, and has some more serious sections - identifying molecules/ proteins, and some less biology related rounds - flags / womens world cup badges.
I have created a 1% club round based on the style of questions in the TV series, which my students have loved (those that watch actual telly and not Netflix at least!)
I run it as a pub-style quiz. Groups of 2-4 students, and they mark each others after a round
All answers are provided
*one round (6Questions) is based on the 2023 Women’s world cup - this could be updated to 2024 Men’s world cup badges… or beyond!
A level Biology maths skills worksheet. Single sided and answers included. Looks at percentages and percentage change calculations and using graphs. All under the context of lipids
Four worksheets that I have recently written in order to update some old resources that I was using. They are aimed at the Genetic Diversity 3.4 AQA topic.
Suggested Answers provided for all
The Genetic Code (2 sided)
Splicing
Mutations (AS)
Classification and species
A double-sided sheet reviewing the triplet code and the nature of the genetic code. A cut and stick activity on substitutions, deletions and additions, and then a four-sided worksheet on mutations. Markschemes are included for all.
A relay quiz in which teams compete to work through a series of questions, which provides an excellent opportunity for AfL. The content is focussed on A level Biology in vivo gene cloning. Instructions and markscheme included!

End of term fun with this fun revision activity - my students love it and get really competitive! It includes a nicely presented PowerPoint and eight cards, each with a choice of three words :) The activity takes 20-30 minutes but if you repeat it but say they can't use a previously used word, you could make it last longer

A Level Teacher Presentation that walks through protein structure clearly, from amino acid structure, formation of the peptide bond, primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure, as well as globular and fibrous proteins. There is a student handout that includes CLOZE tasks they can complete during the presentation - I recommend printing out 4 slides per page in landscape.

GCSE AQA Biology 9-1 - Three Work sheets on Photosynthesis - The Required Practical, Limiting factors and Commercial Use.
These worksheets have been produced to address the new Biology Specification to examine limiting factors, inverse square law between distance and light intensity, and the commercial application of limiting factors - weighing up cost vs. improved yields. Suggested answers are also included for the two of the sheets

An alternative task to assembling a human skeleton - engage your students by getting them to assemble a gorilla skeleton using the printout on card and split pins. Use this to teach about skeletal structure (organ systems), to compare homologous features between humans and apes whilst teaching evolution, or as a fun activity for your 'Science club'!
