Here are my changed up / edited versions of the Ruth Miskin Fresh Start booklets to make them more suitable for my classes as I wanted to add a few more things in & change the order it was in. I have currently edited modules 2-25 and will add 26+ onto this resource once I have done them, so keep checking back so that you can just re-download them with your original purchase.

A blank Literature and Language QLA. Language QLA is broken down to individual questions to see which questions your class is either exeeding in or falling behind in. Literature QLA has broken down the invidiual Assessment Objectives. AO1, AO2 & AO3 are all broken down out of 30 marks. We mark the individual AOs to see students strengths and weaknesses. We do use an A-E system (Advanced, Secure, Developing & Emerging), but these can be changed.

17 lessons on based on Roald Dahl’s ‘Boy’. I find it takes longer than 17 lessons as the reading tends to take longer, so probably more like 20-25 lessons worth. We use this as our introductory SOW for year 7 so fit for mixed ability groups.

15 full lessons covering the AQA Spoken Language element.

29 full lessons aimed at the AQA English Literature GCSE (however, I imagine the general ideas would be useful for other exam boards). Looks at the context of the Edwardian society, exploring the different characters as they read through the text and then moving on to more developed analysis of each character, themes and critical theories. Also included, a 18 mark and 25 mark essay. NOTE: There are an awful lot of tasks for each lesson so makes it easier for differentiation.

Romeo & Juliet, A Christmas Carol & Blood Brothers A bunch of scaffolded quotes I have used with my bottom set to help them revise quotes. We revisit each set of quotes each week, as they improve I will be moving on to the more difficult sets of quotes (more blanked out) Great as a retrieval task at the start of each lesson. Easy - one word blanked out Tricky - two words blanked out Hard - several words blanked out Very hard - all words blanked out but correct spaces (to help students see how many words it should be) Full retrieval - just one line, students to use characters and previous retrieval to remember.
