A short session based on the text extract from Summer 2022. This is a simple session encouraging the synthesis of connotations and is designed to be paperless. It’s fully animated and has a short summary video at the start. Key word analysis is a feature and there’s a demo answer + 2 extra questions. There are a number of book covers, set as small images in the centre of white pages. I printed these laminated and passed them round/got the students into groups with drywipe pens. They can be used in a few ways.

Close look at the importance of: pronouns, emotive language, rhetorical questions; sentence forms and variation and anecdotes… Very visual with fun tasks including Guess the Artist with rhetorical question song titles. Contextualising videos embedded for use without the need of internet connection, which aid learning massively. This gallery is fully animated and explains features with examples and some group tasks and discussion prompts. There are tasks to allow students to analyse pronouns and other features closely and in a sophisticated manner. Notes are designed to guide students in making a high-level response. Handout included, matches the ppt and pages appear on-screen for ease of use. There is an AO2 assessment task and an AO5/6 task for assessment at the end.

This resource is a full Paper 1 resource which could have been split into 5-6 individual sessions. - covering every one of the five questions - 80+ slides - I use this for a full revision resource… Question 1 activities include one chosen to be a little tricky and has a warning with all the sound effects. Question 2 covers relationships between siblings via language in GOT. Question 3 looks at structure in the Maze Runner and looks at narrative openings. Questions 4 has a fantastic group activity where groups must consider a well-known trial and come up with a verdict and sentence. Question 5 does in with a descriptive focus using a M&S add and some other techniques and images. Exam-style questions & Academic Objectives, throughout. It has embedded video clips for use without reliance on connection. It has vast animations which contribute to activities, sound effects and song clips. As well as activities relating to each of the five questions, it also includes timers and initial preparation tasks/group work along with a secondary text-based, timed, activity to assess. There are book recommendations, RRPs and a Partridge in a Pair Tree…(not). But it is quite detailed. Run the slideshow to see the effects and how it all works. It has no graphic information or images but encourages students to use evidence to form an objective assessment and evaluation. Structure has been given some serious attention here because it was new when I made this resource. I use over about 6 hours. Please also note that this is aimed at 16+ but can easily be edited to fit a younger audience.

Covers all of Paper 2 and is great for revision weeks. This is a fully animated powerpoint presentation with tasks that run on a click-by-click basis. Answers are animated andi t is easy to follow, has an example of each of the questions with a preparation task leading into each. Mark schemes are included and a set of unique sources and exam questions with embedded timers and a range of texts.

An in-depth introduction to American English and some example vdeo clips embedded to save reliance on internet connection. This has been well-researched and has embedded videos to contextualise learning. Maps, charts, statistics…

Just revision quiz for use as a formative assessment - revision/recap task. Great to get students into teams to work together on this one. You need to keep track of individual or team scores but the categories were a pain to think of. Any feedback, suggestions for improvements are most welcome!

This is a colourful collection of text extracts and exam-style questions for Paper 1 - Creative Reading & Writing. 4 sets of 4 on A3 for the reading questions - 16 micro mocks = 64 questions in total + 16 mini extracts. This one also comes in a rainbow pack which removes the opportunity for a challenging jigsaw activity because each line is a unique colour/shade. 2 sets of 4 on A4 for Q5 - 8 images and 2x cards for each - one based on description, the other: narration. Best to be printed and laminated so that they can be reused without the risk of wear and tear. Each set for Section A - has a unique colour so they can be double-sided and kept like a pack. Just print pink/green & blue/yellow - printing from the word doc. They look great as in the photograph preview image but, printing them off single-sided means having the ability to use 4 sets at once, with four small groups and we now have a few sets in a drop-in room so students can just choose some to revise with. The set with four blocked colours also make a good jigsaw puzzle, as all texts have matching questions, to start a revision session. Students need to match the questions with each text - basic comprehension Can be used in workshops or given to students to take home and use for revision/practice. Paper 2 now in my shop! =-)

I have a sample pair of these in my shop for a clear preview. The texts are pretty small on the paper 2 ones but people have generally found them okay to read. I’ve added a larger version of the Hair Paper 2 Micro Mock - just in case. These Micro mocks are editable and if you want to reword/change questions then Word documents are also available - after purchase via email. This is a well-researched and in-depth overview containing 54 slides and a lot of interesting facts and details about the intricacies of Language & Sexuality in contemporary culture. THere is a matching 3o page booklet with references on slides throughout.

This is a full intro/revision session that could be run-through quickly or spread over a few sessions. It has 3x examples for each of the three main reading questions and an exemplar creative piece which is higher level, covering writing. These all feature on slides with notes attached for most answers with rough guidelines and examiner comments. There are animated group activities and discussion prompts which help the use of the PPT flow, click-by-click, and a hand out which includes a level 3 mark scheme for Q5. Use this incredible story to provoke some fantastic responses - there is nothing graphic here. But there is a short clip from the film which just provides some context and an interpretation of the extract - as well as a discussion prompt. These cover Paper 2 and have a range of texts and questions covering all P2 AOs. There are 2 sets of cards for Reading and 1 set for Writing. 16 mini extracts 32 reading questions 16 example statements for Persuasive Writing. 6 sets of TEQ example answer paragraph cards. There is also a second set of reading cards - which have been coloured to match each individual P2 set, using the block colours allows for quite a sophisticated matching task. Rainbow cards allow for quicker access with easy matching and are much better for lower level learners. The reading cards can be double-sided but single-sided allows for more simultaneous use. Best to laminate them and reduce the risk of wear and tear. A detailed collection for Paper 1 is also in my shop!

Linking to Paper 1, Question 3 - this worksheet has 4 narrative expositions and grids for students to organise their ideas. It pushes them to make one main point about how interesting the opening is and then explain how the reader is affected, whilst using three quotes/key words or phrases to evidence it. I usually use it as a stretch and challenge exercise, in extra revision sessions or as bookends to a session. The PPT is a recent thing which allows it to be used as a more inclusive lesson. It offers a strategy to aim for 8 minutes and as much of a sophisticated answer as possible.
