This a great story to enable teaching of many of the Year 3 Writing and Reading objectives. As a class, children will read and examine the novel ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ by Phillip Pullman. They will discuss the author and create predications as to what they think the story will be about. Children will examine the main characters in the story and use drama techniques to empathise with the characters. They will have the opportunity to deduce and infer information based on what they have read and give their own opinions about the text. They will develop their knowledge of grammatical terms such as; nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs, identify them within shared and guided reading. They will have the opportunity to develop their writing through different genres of writing such as letters, written in roles as the characters Lila and Lalchand.
