Tes Institute partner with Sharp Interchange to deliver iQTS in Thailand

Following on from the DfE’s successful pilot roll-out of iQTS in 2022, and the launch of our very own International Qualified Teacher Status (iQTS) course in May 2023, we’re proud to announce our partnership with Sharp Interchange to deliver iQTS to teachers in Thailand.
23 Oct 23

Our new partnership with Sharp Interchange is part of our ambition to play a key role in supporting the sector to deliver high quality teacher training, to develop the iQTS programme and to ensure the success of trainees following this teacher training route.

iQTS is a new teaching qualification, based on English standards and training methods, that enables learners to gain English qualified teacher status (QTS) from wherever they are in the world, without the need to visit the UK. In introducing the iQTS course, the Department for Education (DfE) stated its intended objectives to:

  • Provide opportunities for accredited English ITT providers to expand into the growing international teacher training market
  • Make high quality training accessible around the world and allow trainees to benefit from evidence-based ITT
  • Support schools outside the UK to recruit, retain and develop local talent
  • Increase the global pool of quality teachers and support global mobility within the teaching profession

Our partnership will support Sharp Interchange to recruit, develop and retain local teachers in Thailand and is our first partnership with an established international educational services company in South-East Asia to deliver the iQTS course.

As part of their commitment to delivering iQTS, Sharp Interchange will establish an iQTS training centre which will support verified iQTS partner schools to develop trainee teachers throughout Thailand. It will be the country’s first iQTS training centre where teachers working in, or returning to, Thailand can study to gain English QTS.

Pilailuck Chanwiset, Director of Operations at Sharp Interchange commented:

“Today the 14th of July 2023, I can proudly say, marks one of the biggest milestones I as Sharp Interchange's co-founder have had to date – We successfully introduced iQTS to Thailand! It was our honour to have welcomed the Deputy Secretary-General Asst Prof. Dr. Phonraphee Thummaphan of the Teachers' Council of Thailand Secretariat to officially open our iQTS Recruiting and Operations Centre in Bangkok.

“Our "iQTS School Network" welcomes all schools in Thailand to join our extensive network of collaborations with UK partner universities striving to help our partner schools develop their teaching standards and be ready to welcome our iQTS trainee teachers in the near future. If your school would like to explore an opportunity to join this network at NO COST and develop your programme – please don't hesitate to get in touch.

“iQTS Centre (Thailand) welcomes applicants from anywhere in the world to join our 2024 cohort, and as trainee teachers, you will have the opportunity to enhance your teaching skills in 2 different Thai schools throughout your placement.”*
